‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Year 1 Assembly - 4th March 2020

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 12:32pm

The children entered the hall full of excitement and nerves. Their little faces lighting up when they spot their adult, ready to take them on a journey of their learning since joining year 1.

Once all were in place they welcomed all their parents with a beautiful Spring welcome song that was sang beautifully for all to hear.

Their journey began with as the nights get longer. They spoke about dissecting owl pellets to find out what they ate and shared their knowledge of owl habits; proudly showing off their art work and learning from their trip to Reaseheath.

Flying into another term’s learning was Superheroes, looking at the kindness they show through their roles and powers. Superheroes for the day, completing the superhero assault courses and cracking superhero codes.

Their final topic of Frozen Planet took them to remote locations of the North Pole, researching the animals that survive the extreme conditions of the north. Once again, they took the opportunity to show off their amazing artistic flair. The second part of their journey saw them sharing their knowledge of Captain Scott as they joined him on his voyage to conquer the South Pole.

They caused a stir with the other years and made the adults want to return to school with their next topic of Toy Story!

The enthusiasm of the topics and the journeys the children went on is one that was brought to life through activities as well as class room teaching, evident when the children shared their learning. Mrs Cheadle and her class team have clearly taught the topics with passion and excitement, inspiring their minds while at the same time preparing them for future learning.

Well done to all the children today, you did a fantastic job! To Mrs Cheadle and her team, keep on igniting imaginations, inspiring hope and nurturing the love of learning.

On my way out I caught up with a parent who told me the following:

“When I started work, I found it hard to stand up in a room of adults and present but the children weren’t fazed it’s a great school the best in the area”.
