Good morning, Year 5. Thanks to everyone who has sent me their artwork for this week.  Wow! Some of those scenes look amazing.  I wish I was there!

Maths

Mental Maths: Follow the link to Topmarks Tommy's Trek game.

https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/318/Tommys-Trek-Times-Tables

Choose a timestable that you would like to practise.  Choose a level of difficulty then select a world.  Spend around 10 - 15 minutes on this.

LO: Describe position after translation

Follow the link to Oak National Academy and scroll to Transformations.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-year/year-5/subjects/maths

Choose Lesson 5 - Describing the position after translating.  This will be our final lesson on translations.  You can take the pre-lesson quiz to test your knowledge so far.  After watch the teaching video and complete the online tasks.  At the end, you can take the post-lesson quiz to check your understanding.  If you would like some extra practise, have a go at a one, two or three star activity.

English

Spellings: Ask someone who you live with to test you on your spellings from last week - words ending in sion.

Task 1: Read through the English activity "Emotive Language". Can you think why writing a letter to Michiya might have been emotional for Michael.  Remember at this point, Michael would have been a young man himself.  Read through the sentences on the sheet, considering the emotion within them. After, have a go at writing some of your own sentences that show emotion – happiness or sadness.  Michael would have felt both I’m sure.

Task 2: Begin to draft paragraph 1 of your response to Michiya.  Remember, the letter must contain Michael's address and the date in which it was written.  (You can make up this date but remember he disappeared in 1988 and promised Kensuke he would wait at least 10 years before he told his story.)

Science

Today, we are going to learn about pure and impure mixtures then we're going to learn about dissolving.  You will need to follow the links to Oak National Academy and watch both videos.  You do not need to complete the online activities for the first video but you might like to for the second video.  If you have the equipment at home, you could have a go yourselves.

Video 1: https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/represent-the-particles-in-pure-substances-and-mixtures

Video 2: https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/explain-what-happens-to-particles-during-dissolving

After, there are some science activities attached related to dissolving.   Answers are provided.
