Phew! That's a lot of pirate singing and dancing!
Walk the Plank
- As part of a our special pirate day we have fun 'walking the plank'.
- Ask your grown-up to put something on the floor to be your plank such as a piece of masking tape if you have any or a long ribbon or piece of string (unless you happen to have a plank of wood lying around!)
- Now slowly and carefully take little steps along it, trying not to wobble as you go.
- When you get to the end make a big jump as if you are jumping into the water. What sort of jump will you do?
- Now try it with your eyes closed! Make sure you're not going to bump into anything though!
The Pirate Code
- Download the 'pirate code' below. This is a special code that all pirates agree to follow when they are at school on pirate day.
- All pirates would have to agree to follow a set of rules and if they didn't they might have to walk the plank or get left behind (marooned) on a desert island as a punishment.
- Can you think of what a pirate might have done to break the pirate code?
Message in a bottle
- Imagine you have been shipwrecked or marooned on a desert island. Luckily a piece of paper and a pencil made it to the shore with you!
- Write a message asking for help and to be rescued. If you have an empty bottle you could use it to put your message inside.
- Why do you think it's a good idea to put the message into a bottle?
- Find out what happens to paper when it gets wet.
- Now put your bottle with the message inside into some water. Does the message get wet? Why not?
Pirate Science at Home
Below you can download some pirate themed science experiments to try at home. You may not have all the resources and some are easier to do than others.
Maths: Oak Academy - Applying Doubling and Halving
- This lesson is a revision lesson. If you are watching with your child you can pause the lesson and talk through sections together. You can always go back and watch the lesson for that bit of learning again.

- We usually spend more than a week on our pirate topic so we've only been able to do a few activities.
- Visit the CBeebies Swashbuckle page for lots more pirate activities, fun and games.
