Friday 15th January 2021

Good morning, Year 5! It's Friday!!!

It's the end of our second week of online learning already.  Thank you all for working so brilliantly.  You're all doing a marvellous job!

EMA (15 minutes)

Please follow the link to My Mini Maths and scroll to Week 15.  (The inverse operation). Click on the third row (Fri) at the side of the title which says home learning pack. Above is a grey tab to click for the answers.  You can also watch the YouTube video tutorial to support you - Vid1 and Vid2.

Teams sessions: 9 am or 9:45 am. If you can't make the session, don't worry as all of the work with support is attached below.

Mental Maths (15 minutes)

Today, continue to work on your 12x tables.  To test your own knowledge, follow the link to Hit the Button.  Choose Times Tables, 12x tables and spend 5 minutes here.  After, go to Division Facts, divide by 12.  This will test your knowledge of inverse questions.

LO: Multiplying a 2 and 3 digit number by a 2 digit number using long multiplication (formal methods)

If you are unable to join us for the Teams meeting today, please watch the following YouTube clips and attached PowerPoint which go over how to multiply using the long method.

After, complete the following tasks:

  • Complete any work from yesterday.  Make sure that you are secure with the method of long multiplication before you move on to the reasoning and problem solving questions.
  •  Choose from a *, ** or *** activity from the Maths R + Prob Solving file.  Don't forget to check your answers.
  •  Open the extension activity and find the missing digits. (Answers on second page.)

English (You can join me on Teams at 10:30 for this session.)

Spellings: Using the suffix -ship

Today would have been your spelling test at school.  Could you ask someone at home to test you on your spellings (words with the suffix -ship).  Don't forget to remind them to add on our WOTW (below).  I'd love to know how you get on.  Maybe you could tell me your score on Seesaw?

WOTW: thorough, system, suggest, symbol

Sentence Level Task:

Techniques to improve sentences.  Please see the word document attached for instructions.

Writing Task:

This week, we have planned for a piece of writing based on Lune et L'autre.  We have practised writing descriptive sentences and beginning sentences with various openers.  Also, we have worked on adding relative clauses to sentences to add detail to the noun plus expanding nouns into noun phrases.

Now, you are going to use these skills to produce a descriptive piece of writing based on Lune et L'autre.  We will be working on this throughout next week.

* Focus upon writing  1-2 paragraphs. (Only choose this if you would normally only focus on one or two in class.)

** Write in detail the events of the night in Lune et L'autre.

Use your planning sheet and word banks to help you with ideas for each paragraph.  You can also look at my WAGOLL and checklist.

Today, concentrate upon writing the opening paragraph only - not the whole story.  Think about the writing process.  Draft, edit, check for spellings, punctuation and grammar.  This is more important then trying to write the whole piece in one go.

Frida Kahlo was famous for her self-portraits.  Today, you are going to practise how to draw a face thinking carefully about where and how to draw different sections of our head and face.  This doesn't have to be yourself at the moment.  Either look through the steps on the PowerPoint attached or watch the YouTube clip below.

For this lesson, choose from one of the activities below:

* Dance - click on the link below and try to follow the dance moves or make up some moves of your own!

* Circuits - Click the link for a variety of fitness activities.

  • Complete each activity for 30 seconds at a time. Do all the activities three times.
  • Don't forget to have a short rest and a drink of water between each set of 30 seconds.
