Our final week!

I can't believe that it's come around this quickly.  You have all been brilliant over these past few difficult weeks. Well done for showing resilience and working hard.

Maths

Mental Maths: Spend 10 - 15 minutes on Hit the Button, Prodigy or TTRS.

LO: To identify and describe reflections

Follow the link to Oak Academy.  Take the pre-lesson quiz, watch the teaching video and complete the online activities.  You can also take the post-lesson quiz to check your understanding.  If you would like extra activities, please click on the maths activities file attached and choose from a one, two or three star activity.

English

Spellings: This week our spelling focus is on words ending in cian.  Have a look through the PowerPoint to remind yourselves of when we use this ending. Choose an activity daily and use the spelling list to revise your new spellings.

Comprehension: Our comprehension this week is questions on Chapter 7 of Kensuke's Kingdom.  Choose either the one or two star questions.  Answers are provided on the final page.

P4C

After their redundancy from the brickworks, Michael's parents decided to buy a yacht and circumnavigate the world for a year, taking their 11-year-old son with them.  The question I would like you to think about is: Should Michael's parents have been allowed to do this?

Try to think about reasons for and against this decision.

Humanities

Kensuke Ogawa was originally from Japan.  Throughout the book, we learn that he was a doctor on a Japanese war ship during WW2 and that he never returned home because he heard American soldiers saying that everyone was dead in Nagasaki - where his home was.

Your task today is to find out a bit about Japan's history.  You can use the following websites to help.

https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/countries/japan/#:~:text=People%20first%20came%20to%20Japan,arose%20about%2012%2C000%20years%20ago.&text=In%20300%20B.C.%2C%20the%20Yayoi,Island%20from%20Korea%20and%20China.

You can go back in history as far as you want or you may choose to concentrate upon the involvement of Japan in WW2 and of the bombings on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.  Please check with an adult first before you open up any webpages.

You can choose how to present your work.  It could be on a PowerPoint or as a poster - handwritten or typed.
