‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Monday 18th May 2020

Good Morning, Year 5. I hope you have had a good weekend.  I wonder if anyone has done anything exciting?  I've been on a few bike rides with my family which has been lovely.

Well done to everyone who managed to complete their balanced argument.  From the ones I have read, I can see that you're doing brilliantly and working really hard.  Don't worry if you haven't been able to email them over although make sure an adult at home gets to see your super efforts xxx

Maths

Mental Maths: Go to Hit the Button (Link below).  Click on Number Bonds, Decimals then Make 1.  E.g 0.9 + 0.1 = 1

LO: Today, we are going to continue with our work on estimating capacity.   Read through the PowerPoint attached, slides 10 - 17 then complete a one, two or three star activity.  Make sure you check your answers and work through any that you got wrong.

English

Spellings

This week's focus is apostrophes for possession. The words are listed separately and again in the PowerPoint. The PowerPoint has lots of activities that you can work through.

Comprehension

Please read Chapter 2 of Kensuke's Kingdom then answer the comprehension questions.  Answers are provided.  Remember to write in full sentences.  Also,  if a question asks you to find and copy a word, you only need write one word for your answer; find and copy a phrase requires you to find just the phrase; and find evidence from the text requires all evidence not just one bit (unless there is only one bit to find!)

Humanities (Mrs Harris)

Hello everyone, I hope you are all safe and well. Last week we learned about grid references and map symbols. This week, we're going to use that knowledge to create a map of Kensuke's island. This should take about two lessons so continue tomorrow if you don't manage to complete it today. At the end of the PowerPoint there is an art extension activity in case you'd like to get creative over the half term. (If you do, please send photos to the school email address to be forwarded to me, as I'd love to see them!)
