‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Monday 1st March

Good morning,

It is ...

It's a new month today and the third month of the year. Spring is on the way and the daylight is beginning to last just that little bit longer.

In Wales, it is Saint David's Day today. Welsh people might wear a daffodil or a leek on their clothing to celebrate.

This week we are continuing to explore traditional tales with the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'.

Mr Hancock has a special assembly for you to watch ...

Maths - 'Building 9 and 10' - Week 3

We are jumping ahead to week 3 of this unit which is about about 3D shape and repeating patterns. We will continue with exploring 9 and 10 when we are all together next week.

We begin today by building with 3D shapes.

Building 9 and 10 week 3

After the lesson you are going to investigate sending different objects down a homemade ramp/slope. Don't worry if you haven't got a piece of plastic like the one on the photograph for the activity, you can use a large hardback book or a chopping board. It doesn't have to be big, just rigid and something that you can put at an angle.

There are also some new activities for this week on the additional maths activities page.

Additional maths activities

Literacy/CLL: The Three Little Pigs

If you have the story at home ask your grown-up to read it to you or listen to this version.

CBeebies story time - The Three Little Pigs

Questions to talk about ...

  • What did the first little pig use to build their house?

  • What did the third little pig use to build their house?

  • How did the wolf try and get the pigs to come out of their houses?

  • Why couldn't the wolf blow the brick house down?

  • What is your home made from? Why do you think that is?

  • What happened to the wolf at the end of the story? (This may depend on the version you have read or listened to.)

KUW/CD: Building a house for the three little pigs

  • Can you build a house to keep the pigs safe from Mr Wolf?

  • Make sure it is big enough to fit all the pigs in. Where will your pigs sleep?

  • Before you build your house you could make a plan of it on paper, just like a real builder would use or you could just get building!

  • When you have finished, you will need to test it!

  • You could pretend to be the wolf and huff and puff or you could use a hairdryer (with a grown-ups help but make sure it is on a cool setting) to see if you can blow the house down!

See you later for a bedtime story as we catch up with Fast Fox, Slow Dog, Mother Hen and her chicks.
