Maths

You can join me on Teams for this session.  Don't forget, your session may be at a slightly different time today depending on whether you have a session with Mr Reid so keep a look out for your invites.

Mental Maths (20 minutes)

Follow the link to TopMarks Maths below.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/multiples-and-factors

Click on the "Multiples" train.  Remember, the lowest common multiple (LCM) is the lowest number that is a multiple of the numbers given.  E.g. The LCM of 4 and 6 is 12 because 4 x 3 = 12 and 6 x 2 = 12.

LO (40 minutes)

Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.

If you were not able to join me for the Teams session, you can watch the following video or look at the Maths PowerPoint provided.  After, choose from a * or ** activity.  If you're feeling confident with the work and want a challenge, try the extension activity.  Don't forget, it's really important to check your answers so you can respond to any that you have have done incorrectly.  Like we would in school, you should then try to fix your answers.

English

You can join me on Teams for this session at 10:30.

Spellings (20 minutes)

Our spellings this week are words with an /or/ sound spelt au.  Please look at the spelling PowerPoint attached. After, complete the spelling activity sheet. Don't forget to spend 5 minutes revising our words of the week, below.

WOTW: programme, program, rhyme, rhythm

(Do you know the difference between program and programme?  Find out if you don't!)

Comprehension Activity (40 minutes)

Today, I would like you to read through Chapter 5 of Carrie's War.  Are there any words that you don't understand? When I read books, and come across unfamiliar words, I like to look them up in a dictionary to find their meanings.  This helps me to understand the text more clearly.  Could you do this too?

After, choose from a * or ** star reading comprehension activity.  The answers are provided on the second page but only check once you have had a go yourself.  Remember, some questions might only require a one word answer whereas other will need you to find lots of evidence within the text.

Guided Reading

(Please work through this over Monday and Tuesday afternoons.  If we were in school, we would have two sessions, one on each afternoon).

Your text today is an article about Heston Blumenthal who is a chef famous for creating some crazy recipes!

Enjoy reading about some of his craziest recipes and then answer the questions.

The text and the questions can be found in the files section.

My small group:

Your lives Teams session is at 1pm.

Please make sure you have a pen and paper, as well as the text ‘Chinese New Year’ and the questions.

You should have read this ready for the session.

See you soon.
