‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Monday 29th June

Good morning, Year 4!

I have uploaded the online learning for this week so you can plan ahead, if you would like to. Remember, there are usually lots of activities uploaded so continue with what is working best for you at home. This may be following the online activities or it may be from your home learning pack.

It was wonderful speaking to so many of you last week when I called. I am so proud of our year 4 class and you are all doing a fantastic job! Thank you to everybody who is using Seesaw to communicate and respond to tasks. I know not everybody is able to use Seesaw or can send me work but thank you to everybody who has been able to.

Next week, our online learning page will be a little different. From today, Monday 29th June, I will be in school every day teaching a year 6 bubble. We are not allowed to have more than 15 children in one classroom. I endeavour to continue checking and responding to you on Seesaw every day. You may not receive a response as quickly as you have been recently, but I will reply daily to all the messages I receive. I will still be checking Prodigy, Times Tables Rockstars and asking you to continue reading and practising your spellings and times tables every day. I have planned the activities for the next few weeks but I am going to need some help to upload it, on time, here on our online learning page. So, Miss McArdle will be uploading the activities to the year 4 online learning page. It will be very similar - you may not even notice any changes!

Keep up all your hard work and determination year 4. You are all fantastic!

Miss Bass

Well done to everybody who has been logging on to Prodigy. The Prodigy leader board for last week is:

Gold: Ellie J       Silver: Lily        Bronze: Harry

Well done to our leaderboard winners this week! Well done to those who have been on the leaderboard before too!

Well done to everybody who has been logging on to Times Tables Rockstars. Our first TTRS leader board for most improved last week is:

Gold: EllieJ       Silver: Maddie        Bronze: Oliver

Well done!

Spellings

I have uploaded the spelling words for this week at the bottom of this page. We are spelling words which are adverbials of frequency and possibility. Don't forget about our words of the week too. These are from our Year 3/4 spelling list. Keep practising throughout the week too!

Maths

I have set questions on Prodigy for this week so please spend no longer than 20 minutes each day playing the game.

I have found another series of lessons by Oak National Academy for our next topic. Today we will be learning about coordinates and how to describe a position on a 2-d grid. Please have a go at the online lesson by clicking the link below.

I noticed, as I spoke to many of you on the phone, that some of you enjoy the online videos, some prefer the worksheets and others enjoy Prodigy. This week only, where possible, I will try to include a worksheet, a MyMaths link and the Oak National Academy link. You do not need to complete all the activities set (unless you would like to) you can choose which you prefer.

MyMaths link -> https://app.mymaths.co.uk/181-lesson/coordinates-1-positive

The worksheet will be uploaded at the bottom of the page.

English

This week, we are starting a new piece of writing. We will be writing a news report. This should last us the week and then you will be starting a new piece of writing which Miss McArdle will upload on Monday.

I will not be setting a separate reading comprehension this week, as I usually do, as there is one included in the online lessons. Please continue to read every day either using your own books or online with Epic! Thank you to everybody who has requested to have books set on the website. I hope you have enjoyed reading the books I have set for you.

Computing

At the bottom of this page, I have uploaded some e-safety activities for you to have a go at. There is a word search and a e-safety rules activity. If you would like an extra challenge, have a go at the research task at the bottom of the e-safety rules activity. If you find out the answers, let me know on Seesaw!

As it was National School Sport Week last week, I thought you might like to have a go at this 'Colourful Kits' game. Using this game you can learn all about patterns, logic and debugging through sporting activites!

Alternatively, Dr Mischief has stolen the world's biggest diamond. Use logic and algorithms in this game below to help get the diamond back! Good luck!

Art

Have a look at the 'William Morris Artist Fact sheet' page which is uploaded at the bottom of this page. We are going to design our own wallpaper in the style of William Morris.

You may want to create a page on the artist before you begin designing your own wallpaper. You can use the facts and the images on the fact sheet to help you to make a poster all about the artist. Which images do you like? Which ones do you not like?

There is a page for you to create your wallpaper design on, if you would like to use it.

Today is also the start of Children's Art Week and it will be running between 29th June - 19th July 2020. The theme for the first week is 'The Natural World'. Have a go at the cards uploaded at the bottom of the page. Let me know how you get on!
