Maths

You can join me on Teams for this session.  YDon't forget, your session may be at a slightly different time today depending on whether you have a session with Mr Reid so keep a look out for your invites.

Mental Maths (20 minutes)

This week, I would like you to focus on your 9x tables.  Can you write them down and think of other number sentences that are related.?

E.g. 9 x 7 = 63;  7 x 9 = 63; 63 ÷ 9 = 7;  63 ÷ 7 = 9; 63 = 7 x 9; 63 = 9 x 7; 7 = 63 ÷ 9

To practise your 9x table, follow the link to Hit the Button.

LO (40 minutes)

Converting mixed numbers to improper fractions.

If you didn't manage to join us on Teams today or you would like to recap in your own time, please look through the maths PowerPoint which goes over how to covert a mixed number to an improper fraction.  After, choose from a *, ** or *** activity.  Don't forget to check your answers.  If you're feeling confident, move on to the extension activity. The answers are under the blue boxes.

English

You can join me on Teams for this session at 10:30.

Spellings (20 minutes)

Our spellings this week are words with an /or/ sound spelt or.  Please look at the spelling PowerPoint attached. After, complete the spelling activity sheet. Don't forget to spend 5 minutes revising our words of the week, below.

WOTW: correspond, existence, desperate, prejudice

Comprehension Activity

Today, I would like you to read through Chapter 2 of Carrie's War.  Are there any words that you don't understand? When I read books, and come across unfamiliar words, I like to look them up in a dictionary to find their meanings.  This helps me to understand the text more clearly.  Could you do this too?

After, choose from a * or ** star reading comprehension activity.  The answers are provided on the second page but only check once you have had a go yourself.  Remember, some questions might only require a one word answer whereas other will need you to find lots of evidence within the text.

Your text today is an extract from the Michael Morpurgo story, ‘War Horse’.

You will need to read pages 1-4 of chapter 1 to be able to answer the questions.

Please post your work onto Seesaw.

Now repeat the task but, this time, from a Hindu perspective.

  1. Did you order the cards differently?
  2. Why do you think that was?

Write a sentence to explain any differences that you noticed.

You could structure your sentence like this:

I put … as most important but … was at the top of the list from a Hindu perspective. I think that they were different because…
