We have made two short films showing the pick-up and drop-off for for the settling in visits. We hope they are useful.

There is one for the morning sessions and one for the afternoon sessions.

Not long to go now ... we can't wait to see you all!

Social Story about starting school

This story is perfect for discussing children's feelings about school. I would really recommend you take the time to spend a few minutes sharing it with your children.

Starting School - A social story

While We Can't Hug

This is a short film that you may have seen but it is useful to show children how they can still show they care for their friends.

While We Can't Hug

We are delighted that your child will be joining our school in September. We know what an important step this is in your child’s (and your) life. It is our aim that we make the transition for your child into school a very happy and successful one, even in these very unusual circumstances.

First day September 2019

You have probably already talked to your child about starting school.  You can help your child to feel positive and comfortable about starting school by talking about all the enjoyable activities they will take part in and the new friends that they will make.  They may already know children who are here.

What we will do

Below you will find information about starting at our school. Please take time to look through everything as there is a lot of useful information about our school and the routines of the school day. There are two handbooks; one for you and one for your child. Please share it with them. It may be useful to share it with them a few times between now and when they start school.

There are also some information leaflets and activities that you can do to help your child get ready for school.

We have made a tour of our school for you to watch. It also shows you the classroom and explains some of our routines. You can find it at the bottom of this page.

Information for Parents video - NEW

Our new starters evening, which is usually held in June, lasts around an hour and covers a range of topics. We are hoping to hold an evening in the Autumn term, guidance permitting, to talk to you about our curriculum, how we teach reading and phonics and ways that you can help at home.

In the meantime I have made a short video to give some additional information about preparing your child for school here at Excalibur.

New Starters 2020 Information for Parents

Here at school we teach phonics using a scheme called Read Write Inc. Below is a link to a useful short video explaining the scheme for parents.
