Planning Progression

The intent of Excalibur’s computing curriculum is to equip all children with the knowledge and skills that they need to be successful in an increasingly digital world, being digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology.

Our children will understand and be able to apply the fundamental skills and concepts of computer science, including algorithms. They will also begin to analyse problems in computational terms and get repeated practical experience of writing computer programs and modifying existing programs in order to solve such problems and achieve a specific outcome. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils will be equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.

Our aim is for children to develop confidence and competence across a breadth of resources, including applications, software and online tools relating to the different aspects of computing, including data handling and multimedia. They will be able to evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems. Children will also digitally discerning, able to make informed choices as to which program, software or online tool would be most appropriate to achieve a specific outcome.

A vital aspect of Excalibur’s Computing curriculum is E Safety.

Our E Safety curriculum aims to equip children with the knowledge and skills required for them to be safe online and for them to learn how to be responsible digital citizens. The fundamental aspects of this are that our children will be able to keep themselves safe online and will be kind and respectful to others through social media and other online communication tools. Children at Excalibur will be aware of things that they may come across online that are inappropriate or upsetting and they will know how to deal with such incidents, including where they can go for further help or advice.
