Good morning, Year 5!

LO (40 minutes)

Comparing and ordering fractions

Yesterday, we started to look at comparing and ordering fractions less than 1.  Today, we are going to continue with this work, moving on to reasoning and problem solving questions.  Firstly, work through today's PowerPoint, especially if you were unable to join me on Teams.  After, chose from a *, ** or *** maths activity.  If you are feeling confident, choose from a *,** or *** extension activity.  Please check your answers thoroughly and correct any errors.

English

You can join me on Teams for this session at 10:30 am.

Spellings (20 minutes)

Please find attached a handwriting sheet to practise your handwriting and words for this week.

Don't forget to spend time revising our words of the week, below.

WOTW: correspond, existence, desperate, prejudice

Task 1 (20 minutes)

Today, we are going to look at when to use the pronouns I and me.  Sometimes, this can be confusing because in spoken English, many people get this incorrect so we often hear the incorrect version.  However, it's important to know the difference particularly for written English.  Please read through the PowerPoint then complete the activity.  Check your answers, looking at "Worksheet 2".

Task 2 (30 minutes)

Your task is to write a postcard from Carrie Willow to her mother who is now living in Scotland.  Think about the features of a postcode.  Where is the address written? (You can make the address up.) What would you include in the postcard? Have a look at the document "An Evacuee's Postcard Home".  Here you will find a structure for your postcode, a word bank of really usful openers and a reminder of puctuation that you could use.  You may also want to look at my WAGOLL to help.

Science

This week we are learning about astrunomers and what they do. Watch the lesson here;

What do astronomers do? (thenational.academy)

Print off the sheet for Lesson 6.  We look forward to your reports on a famous astronomer.

French

This week we are writing about the days of the week and linking that to the activites and hobbies from last week's lesson.

Je vais = I am going

E.g. Je vais jouer au foot = I am going to play football

Look at the document - My Week

Fill in the diary to show what you are going to do every day next week using the days of the week and the activities you learnt last lesson.

E.g. Lundi je vais jouer au foot. = On Monday I am going to play football

Here's last week's clip showing you how to say all sorts of different hobbies.
