‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Thursday 11th June 2020

Hi everyone. I hope you are all keeping safe and well.  Before we start today, I just wanted to remind you that I think you are all doing an amazing job with your home learning.  Thank you if you have managed to post some of your work on Seesaw.  It's been great to see.  Also, I received an email yesterday from Epic.

So a huge well done to everyone!

Maths

Mental Maths: Follow the link to a maths game called 'Compare Decimals'. To open, click on the blue square with the 'more than' sign on it then click the blue arrows to reach the game.  Remember to think about the value of each digit to help you to compare accurately.  E.g. 2.153 is smaller than 2.6

LO: To understand angles.

Read through slides 1 - 14 on the PowerPoint then choose from a one, two or three star activity. Remember to check your answers (provided).

English

Today, we are going to practise writing some descriptive sentences to introduce our tropical island.  Read paragraph 1 of my WAGOLL to help.  On the activity sheet, use either the red or green words to help you begin your own sentences in a variety of ways.  Don't start to draft your leaflet yet though.  There are going to be a few lessons practising certain features to help your writing sound great before we start to write it!

Art

Today, we are going to start our new art project.  We will base our work on an artist called Hokusai who was born around October 1760 and died on 10th May 1849.  He was a Japanese painter and print maker of the Edo period.  He created 36 views of Mount Fuji due to a personal obsession with the volcano.  His most famous painting was The Great Wave of Kanagawa which was the inspiration of the front cover of Kensuke's Kingdom.

Have a look at the Art Activity sheet.  You will see some of Hokusai's famous paintings.  What similarities and differences are there?

Have a go at sketching a small section from one of his paintings.  You could focus upon a volcano or a wave.  You could use pencil crayons to colour or simply add tone using a pencil.
