‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Thursday 14th May 2020

Good morning, Year 5. It's almost the end of the week and you're all doing a great job!  Keep up the fantastic work.  Thank you if you have already sent in your balanced arguments.  If you're still working on it, that's fine.  And, don't worry if you are unable to send it to me.

English

Read Chapter 3 of Kensuke's Kingdom - Ship's Log

Our next piece of writing is going to be a descriptive narrative entitled "Overboard" which will be about the events that led up to Michael falling off the Peggy-Sue and waking up on the island.  In the book, it does describe the ocean as being calm but I'd like to change that slighty.  Try to imagine a change in the weather.  Follow the link to YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-pApUpmF0Y (Stormy sea sounds) and imagine being tossed into that sort of water in the middle of the night!

Now, read pages 42 - 50 which describes the events of the night.  Use the planning sheet to help you to plan what will go into your piece of writing.  Remember, a planning sheet helps you to structure your writing with ideas.  You shouldn't start to write the story yet!

On page 5 of your Ship's Log (attached again), you are to think of a name for your ship.  Of course, you'll have to take on all of the ship's roles.  Answer the question about the team work then take a look at page 6.  Here, you can draw a design of what your ship might look like. To help with this, please check out the YouTube clip which might give you ideas of how to use household objects to design a boat that propels.
