‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Thursday 4th June 2020

Hi everyone.  I hope you are all having a lovely week despite the change in weather.  I just wanted to remind you all of how proud I am that you are still working hard whether that be with the online learning or using the paper packs.  A new pack will be with you shortly that you can start working through if you wish. Don't forget, you are not expected to do the online work and the paper packs.  You can choose! Either way, well done for the perseverance.

Yesterday, there were some new arrivals at my house!  Three of our beautiful chicks (now big chickens) are now staying with me. I have also found a lovely home for the cockerel.  Phew! Not sure my neighbours would have appreciated his beautiful voice in the mornings!  Photos to follow soon !

Maths

Mental maths: Click on the following link to a fractions game which will help you to revise unit fractions, improper fractions and mixed numbers. Choose 'Build a Fraction' then click on a level (from 1 - 10).  You have to drag the numbers into the empty fraction boxes to show a fraction which could represent the diagram.  https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/build-a-fraction/latest/build-a-fraction_en.html

LO: To calculate missing angles on a straight line and around a point.

Look at the teaching PowerPoint which will go through how to calculate missing angles.  You will not need a protrator for this and the angles won't necessarily be drawn to scale.

After this, have a go at the activities on the handout.  If you're feeling confident, have a go at the Star Questions.  Answers to all are on the second page.

English

Today, use your planning sheet to draft and edit paragraphs 2 and 3 of you writing 'Overboard'.  Remember to use your checklist, look at my WAGOLL and perhaps revisit pages 42 - 50 of Kensuke's Kingdom to help.  Focus upon punctuation and grammar.

So, over half-term, you may have had a go at creating your boats.  If you did, have a go now at filling in the evaluation sheet.  Think about what really worked on your ship and what you could perhaps make better if you were to change the design.  For example, your ship may have floated really well and travelled far because of a good propulsion method but may have toppled as soon as you added weight.  Therefore, you would need to make you boat more sturdy.  How would you do this?
