 World Book Day!

English (1 hour)

Please note that there is no live English input today due to the group Teams meetings. Please check your Microsoft Teams calendar to check what time your group will be meeting.

The theme for our World Book Day at Excalibur is 'Inspiring People'. I have chosen a book from the series 'Little People, BIG DREAMS' which focuses on Ernest Shackleton which links to our Antarctica topic! Click HERE to find out more about Ernest Shackleton.

Please ask an adult before clicking on any links.

There are two tasks which I would like you to complete today. You may wish to continue this task in the afternoon session too.

Watch THIS online lesson to listen to the story. Please ask an adult before clicking on any links. The video is by Olivia Holden who illustrated 'Little People, BIG DREAMS: Ernest Shackleton'. You will need to:

1. Ernest Shackleton was an explorer who travelled to Antarctica. Imagine you are an explorer who is travelling to an unknown island. Your first task is to create/design your own island. You can choose to do this in whatever way you would like to. You may want to use lego, collage, junk modelling, painting, drawing or something else. Be as creative and as imaginative as you like! Please do send your islands on Seesaw!

2. Ernest Shackleton wrote about his expedition. Your second task is to write a setting description of your island. Imagine you have just arrived onto your island - what can you see? What can you hear? What does it look like. Explain in as much detail as you can what it is like on your island. Please upload your writing onto Seesaw - I can't wait to read all about your island!

Please upload your responses to the English task on Seesaw. Thank you.

World Book Day Activities (1 hour)

If you have not completed the creative task and the writing task from the English lesson this morning, please continue working on this during this session. When you complete these, there are some World Book Day activities uploaded at the bottom of the page for you.

I have assigned some books on Epic which you might like to read. Please click the picture below to take you to the website. Please spend at least 20 minutes today reading - let me know on Seesaw which book you have chosen to read today and why you are enjoying it!
