‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Tuesday 16th June 2020

I hope everyone is keeping well.  Over the next two weeks, I'll be giving you a call to see how you are getting on with your learning and finding out what you've been up to.  Please be aware that the number will be withheld!

Science

You may remember that we were supposed to go to the Big Bang Science Fair back in March just before lockdown.  Well, as the event was cancelled, we signed up for an online Big Bang event that is happening today (and tomorrow) between 10:00 and 12:00.  Here, you can explore hands on challenges, have a look at the live interactive workshops and much more! Attached is the event guide so you can see what's on and what you would like to be involved with. LO:To draw and measure angles accurately

Look at slides 16 - 23 on the maths PowerPoint.  This goes through the steps on how to draw angles accurately using a protractor.  After, choose from either the one or two star activity. You will need to get a grown-up to check your answers this time as they will need to check the accuracy of the angles drawn.

English

Task 1

To use semi-colons in a list

Semi-colons can be used in between lists that contain more than one or two words

E.g. Lounge by one of the four glistening pools; challenge a friend to a game of tennis at our on-site courts; head for the sea for jet skiing and other water sports; or choose from one of our fantastic activities over-leaf. The choice is yours.

Your first task is to explore some of your own sentences where you use a semi-colon to list items.  Relate to your persuasive leaflet.

Task 2

Click HERE  to listen to an advert persuading people to go to the 'Tropical Paradise Island'. What techniques does the girl use to persuade and draw her audience in?  Look at the attached transcript of her voice-over.  Look carefully at the language she uses.
