‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Wednesday 3rd June 2020

Hi everyone.  I hope you're all ok and enjoying your week.  It looks like yesterday was the last of the nice weather so fingers crossed the sun comes back soon.  Do tell me what you've been up to over half term on our Year 5 blog.  Thanks for the comments so far!  Thank you also to those of you who have sent in pictures of some of the activities you've been getting up to.  If anyone likes spaghetti bolognese then Annie is the person to go to!!

Mental Maths: Follow the link to a fractions game. This will help you to revise the link between fractions, decimals and percentages.  You can choose between levels 1 - 5.  https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/120/match_fractions_decimals_and_percentages#.UCdcd2MsCEY

LO: Use knowledge of acute, obtuse and reflex angles

If you're feeling confident with knowing the different types of angles, have a go at completing the activity acute, obtuse and reflex problems.  You may want to remind yourselves by looking at yesterday's PowerPoint.  Scroll down for the answers.  If you still want to practise naming the tyoes of angles and thinking about how many degrees are in each type, you can choose the file "practise naming angles.

English

Today, we are now ready to begin writing up 'Overboard'.  You may want to read pages 42 - 50 to help you to recap on details of this part of the story.  Use your planning sheet as a rough guide to help you to write 5 - 6 paragraphs about the night Michael fell off his yacht.  You can either write in first person, as Michael, retelling the story or in 3rd person.  You should aim to draft, write and edit 1 - 2 paragraphs a day.  Remember, when you are editing, check for spellings, grammar and punctuation as well as thinking about any ways you could improve your sentences.  Use my WAGOLL to help.

Blue font - shows my varied sentence openers.

Red font - shows the different forms of puncuation I've used.

Purple font - shows where I have extended my sentences.
