‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Week beginning Monday 13 April

Week beginning Monday 13 April  Welcome.

 Happy Easter everyone!

Anyone eat too much chocolate? Anyone get wet yesterday? I saw lightning and heard rumbling thunder in Congleton. What was it like in Alsager?

Things to do

Reading - every day from your Guided Reading book and then books from home. Would you like David Walliams to read you a story?

https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/   Scroll down the web page to find the Elevenses link.

Spelling - every day. Recap the 30 common exception words (CEW) for Year 2. Then learn the 10 new ones. They are in your home learning pack.

PE - with Joe Wicks on youtube live 9.00 - 9.30 Ask first. Have you been doing it? I have!

Geography project March 23 to  April 17 I have set up a blog for your castles, capitals and countries of the UK research. You should have nearly finished this. I hope you liked researching information. Maybe you have been to one of these cities.

Castles of the UK capitals. Over the next four weeks find out about the castles in the capital cities of the four countries of the UK. England, London. Wales, Cardiff. Scotland, Edinburgh. Northern Ireland, Belfast.

What is the country? What is the capital city? Where is the castle in the city? (clue= whereabouts in the city? Or outside the city? On top of a volcano?) What type of city is it? (clue= concentric, motte and bailey) Explain the facts that you find. Draw and print pictures of the castles. Find the castles on Google maps. Drop the yellow person in to get a 'real' look at the castle.

Use this link to find out about the Tower of London. You could learn about the Yeoman Warders, the crown Jewels or the ravens. Maybe find the Tower of London on Google maps. Drop the yellow person onto a River Thames boat for a river cruise. Keep clicking the arrow to move along the river.

Well done again to all those children using Prodigy. It is amazing to see how many questions you are completing.

The Prodigy leader board for last week April 6 - April 12 looks like this:

Gold -  Alex     Silver -  Fenna     Bronze - Emily

Well done to these three and to everyone else who logged in and enjoyed playing on Prodigy.

What are you doing in your garden this week? Have you built anything? Planted something?

What about indoors? Drawing, painting, colouring, baking, making?

Maybe you could try some outdoor art. Did it make you smile?

Tell me about it on our Easter blog. I look forward to hearing form you.

Did anyone try any of these links last week? My favourite animals are the panda and penguins at Edinburgh Zoo. The panda eats all day long and the penguins are so funny.

Remember learning how to draw a dragon in school? Find Shoo Rayner of youtube and try something new. If it doesn't work, never mind, try again and see the improvement.

This link takes you to a science page by Maddie Moate. She is dissecting a daffodil. Ask if you can try this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7EdZa24fMs

Watch animals live at Edinburgh Zoo https://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/webcams/panda-cam/

Have you watched the film 'Night at the Museum'? Wander round the museum can you find Rex?

Do you like theatre shows? Watch 'The Wind in the Willows' here https://www.willowsmusical.com/

Maybe exploring the moon is more interesting https://www.nasa.gov/specials/nasaathome/index.html

And finally something for your grown ups. The National Theatre are streaming shows free for a week at a time. Jane Eyrehttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJgBmjHpqgs6WHi1g0FW7Tdf3ejvWbcL0   Andrew LLoyd Webber is also streaming musicals available on Fridays for 48 hours, not sure which musicals are coming up.

Look out for an email from mrs Jones containing music resources especially if you like singing. Mylene Klass is also providing music lessons on youtube.

And finally I have signed everyone up to a reading website called 'Epic'. Have a look see if you like it. Explore the non-fiction, find an animal story you like or research a topic. Use the class code sent via parent mail from Mrs Hilditch. Hope you like it. We could use it in school at Quiet Reading time.

Take care Year 2. Keep smiling and being kind to your family.

Mrs Weatherby
