‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Week beginning Monday 25 May

Welcome to

www.GlitterTextOnline.com

I hope we have some warm sunshine this week so that we can enjoy the outdoors. There are some things I would like you to continue with this week but, there are also some fun things you might want to try in the files below. On Monday 18 May I received an exciting email. Year 2, you have earned your 600 books badge.

Here it is!

This is your badge.

Amazing effort, well done.

Prodigy Leader Board

Gold - Fenna   Silver - Joel   Bronze - Ella

Very well done to these three children.

This week the leader board has changed everyday.

Things to do

https://www.medicspot.co.uk/handwash  This is a competition to encourage people to wash their hands, all entries get a certificate.

Spelling - every day. Continue with the 50 CEW (common exception words) for Year 2. If you are confident with these look back in your Homework Book and check you can still remember how to spell all of those words.

English – It's the Whitsuntide holidays so no writing - unless you want to. Use the bee identification chart and investigate bee activities. Bees are our friends. Find out why. Which flowers do bees prefer in your garden? How long do they stay on one flower? How many different flowers do they visit? Which direction do they enter and leave your garden? I wonder why?

ReadingFree reading choice from Epic. How many books do you own? Have you ever counted them? Maybe there is a book that you have been wanting to read. This could be the week to start it.

I am reading Pompeii by Robert Harris. It is quite a thick book so it might take me a while.

Handwriting

Look at our Year 2 class page. There are handwriting videos to watch. They should remind you of our handwriting in class. Print out the paper to practise any joins you are not sure about. Your spellings now need to be written in Excalibur cursive.

Maths - Prodigy and TTRS. We will still  have the Leader Board on Monday 1 June. Keep going with Prodigy. Remember that it does not matter if you get it wrong, the computer will adjust for you.

Here's a little heads up for you:

After the Whit holidays we are going to be practising shark fin adding with carrying over into the ten (26 + 37), subtraction with decomposition (35 - 18 we will use chips and peas), mixed arithmetic, using the language of mass, reading scales and reasoning. Throughout all of this we will be learning to tell the time. It would be a good idea to start now in this order: o'clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to, 5 min times, time problems.

PE with Joe Wicks on youtube live 9.00 - 9.30 Ask first. Practise sprinting in your garden. Can you skip? And run at the same time? Use Google maps or Streetmap to see where the footpaths are around and about. Plan a walk to do with your family. I am doing it everyday. I have even ordered a Tshirt. smiley

Science - How are your sunflowers? Any signs of growth? Don't forget to keep adding to your Sunflower Diary.

National Geographic on our class page, has fun videos and quizzes to try.

DKFindout on our class page, is full of intersting facts, pictures and diagroms.

https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/schools-and-colleges/family-worksheets.aspx  This is a link to the RAF museum website. There are activities for you and your family to try. I like the sound of the mini museum task.

Could you change the colour of daisy petals? See if you can? Use the Daisy Experiment file.

Be creative with the Fun with Faces file.

Enjoy the holidays everyone and we'll get back to our online learning on Monday 1 June. Remember to be kind to your family and to use your lovely manners like 'Yes please' and 'Excuse me please' and 'No thank you' Just like you do in school. I think if the sunshines I will go for another long walk. If I can see Alsager I will take a photograph for you.

Take care,

Mrs Weatherby smiley yes
