‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Week beginning Monday 27 April

to the last week in April

Week beginning Monday 27 April

What a sunny week it was last week! I planted runner beans and blueberries in my garden. Did you plant something? I also looked for the starlink satellites but did not have much luck. Never mind, I'll keep trying.

Let's look at last weeks Prodigy leader board.

Week April 20 - 26

Gold -   Zac B  Silver - Alexia   Bronze - Sienna A

Fabulous, very well done to these three children.smiley

Also well done to Joey and Oscar who answered all their questions correctly.

Remember, if you get an answer wrong, Prodigy will help you, so that you get it right eventually.

Things to do

Download the power points below to find out more details for English and maths.

English – We are continuing with our letter writing. Find Jessie's Island on 'Epic' read the whole book. Then we'll try a postcard.

Reading – choose a sea creature and read about it on 'Epic'  When the blogs are up and running again I will add a blog so that you can recommend books to each other. Write 5 facts that you have found out about the creature. They could be new facts or surprising facts. How are your own books organised? I have alphabetised mine by author. So, Michael Morpurgo comes before Jeremy Strong.

Spelling - every day. This week we are adding ‘ing’ to words that end in ‘e’. So, make + ing = making. What happened? If a word ends in ‘e’ you have to lose the ‘e’ add ‘ing’.

Complete the spelling practice page.

Maths - more work on length. We will be comparing and ordering lengths. You will need to know these signs      >   more than    8 > 5          <  less than     3 < 9

PE with Joe Wicks on youtube live 9.00 - 9.30 Ask first. Keep doing it. Maybe you walk with your family each day or go for a bike ride. Whatever you do, try to get some kind of exercise to make you out of breath. It's good for you. Honest! Or maybe try finding ASM Sports UK on Youtube for ideas to challenge you outside. I particularly like the socks and washing basket challenge.

Geography Let's go to the seaside. Look at the picture in the st Ives file. Can you label all the features? Do you know which ones are natural, part of the physical environment and which ones have been made by people, the human features.

* Label the features then write a list of all the physical features and a list of all the human feautres.

* Use Google maps to 'walk' around St Ives harbour.

Did you remember your towel? I had a paddle on the way round to the lighthouse. I think I'll have a mint choc chip cornet on the way back to the life boat station. What is your favourite flavour fo ice-cream?

DT    When I sit on the beach, with my family, we have a small beach tent and a wind break to keep things cool and stop some of the breeze. Have you got a beach tent you could put up in your garden? Or could you design your own beach shelter? Draw and label your own design for a beach shelter.

It must provide some shade and shelter from the wind.

It must be big enough for 2 people.

You could use canes and old duvets or sheets. Ask a grown up if they made shelters or dens when they were young.

If it rains, draw your design so that you are ready to construct when the sun shines.

I'm sure yours will be neater than mine!

IT - There are a couple of E-safety activities for you to try. You could use your mult-media skills and create a fact page or poster about the sea creature you chose from the books on 'Epic' or your own book library.
