Week beginning Monday 29 June
Phew! It was hot last week. It is the last week of June and the summer holidays are just around the corner, but let's keep our learning going. You are doing so well Year 2. Every now and then, I bump into one of you which is brilliant. Keep smiling those brilliant smiles.
We are soooo close to 1000 books. Keep reading Year 2. Choose fiction or non-fiction. Check out all the books about weather, lighthouses and your choice of subjects of course.
Prodigy Leader Board Gold - Joel Silver - Sienna A Bronze - Emma Excellent effort from these three children. Well done to everyone who answered questions last week. You are doing really well. The most important thing is that Prodigy is fun and it helps your maths. |
Look out for Sir David Attenborough on BBC Bitesize on Tuesday 30 June. He will be talking about dinosaurs and fossils.
Things to do
Download the power points below to find out more details for English and maths.
English – We are going to watch a short animation called 'The Lighthouse'. We are also going to look at a true story set in a lighthouse. Grace Darling lived in a lighthouse with her father and mother. One stormy night, they rescued people from a sinking ship. |
Reading – every day. Use Epic to find out about animals, plants, people, places and events. This week the comprehension is altogether. There are * or ** or *** comprehensions. Read about 'The History of Seaside Holidays' and then answer the questions. Print out or answer in your book. Choose which one to do or challenge yourself to try two.
Spelling - every day. Sometimes letters work with other letters to make a different sound. This week we are looking at words that have a 'zh' sound like treasure and measure. In these words, the 's' is making the 'zh' sound.
Complete the spelling practice page in Excalibur cursive please.
It should look like this. |

Handwriting Look at our Year 2 class page. There are handwriting videos to watch. They should remind you of our handwriting in class. Print out the paper to practise any joins you are not sure about. Your spellings now need to be written in Excalibur cursive. Spellings should now be in Excalibur cursive handwriting please. |
Maths - Great work telling the time last week! We are going to be continuing with our work on time this week but we are going to be focusing on solving some problems to do with time. Keep practising telling the time whenever you can using clocks that you have around you.
PE with Joe Wicks on youtube live 9.00 - 9.30 Ask first. Practise sprinting in your garden. Can you skip? And run at the same time? Could you build an obstacle course? Through a hoop? Over a hurdle? Throw a ball to hit a target?
Geography/History - You have found out lots of information about what holidays were like in the past, you can use this information to help you think about the clothes that were worn and the food that was eaten in the past and compare it to holidays nowadays. There may even be some useful information in your reading comprehension this week. I think I might need an ice-cream thinking about all this!
Science – We are going to be thinking about 'Taking Care of Our Teeth' this week. Our teeth are very important and not just for those lovely smiles!
Art/DT – Shadow art. Use this link to take you to Oak National Academy where you can watch a video about creating some shadow art.
