  Week beginning Monday 30 March

Welcome Year 2. Did you enjoy the sunshine last week? Remember to try to be good for your adults. Its not the same as being in school, but listen to your adults. Keeping your room tidy would be kind and helpful.

Download the powerpoints below to find out more details for English and maths.

Geography project March 23 to  April 17 How are you getting on?

Castles of the UK capitals. Over the next four weeks find out about the castles in the capital cities of the four countries of the UK. England, London. Wales, Cardiff. Scotland, Edinburgh. Northern Ireland, Belfast.

What is the country? What is the capital city? Where is the castle in the city? (clue= whereabouts in the city? Or outside the city? On top of a volcano?) What type of city is it? (clue= concentric, motte and bailey) Explain the facts that you find. Draw and print pictures of the castles. Find the castles on Google maps. Drop the yellow person in to get a 'real' look at the castle.

If you are lucky the gate to Cardiff castle will be open and you can 'walk' inside. What happens at Edinburgh castle at one o'clock? Find evidence using Google maps that Belfast castle 'used' to be in the city centre. What is kept at the Tower of London? (more than one answer).

*** Castle Help ***

Edinburgh Castle sits on top of an extinct volcano. Edinburgh zoo has live cameras to watch the panda, koala, penguins, tiger and rock hopper penguins.

https://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/   I think I saw a tiger in school last week! If I see it again I will take a photograph. Look out for it on this weeks pages.

Imagine an eruption millions of years ago. You could draw an erupting volcano. Learn 5 alternatives for the colour red.

Belfast Castle is a new castle on the edge of the city. But, there used to be a castle in the city centre. Look at this map for evidence.

Science Go on a materials hunt around your house. Find things that are made from: plastic, glass, fabric, wood, metal. Make a list of things you find in your book.

IT Make a branching data base. You could make it like the 'Guess Who' game. Ask a grown up to 'play' your branching database.

What are you doing in your garden this week? I've just seen a pigeon with a huge twig in its beak.

Take care everyone
