‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Week beginning Monday 4 May

Welcome to the first week of May

Week beginning Monday 4th May

Monday is Star Wars Day

Friday is VE Day

What a week! It's going to be busy.

I hope you are all well and staying safe with your families at home. Last week I was able to speak to lots of you on the telephone. It was sooooo lovely to hear to your voices again. All of you said the same thing, that you are missing your friends and I am missing all of you too. During this week I will again be trying to telelphone so that I can speak to everyone.

Who is on the Prodigy Leader Board this week?

Monday 27 April to Sunday 3 May

Gold -  Zac B    Siver - Ella   Bronze - Emma

Well done to these three children

and to everyone else who logged on to Prodigy this week. Amazingly, 11 children answered more than 90 questions each this week, excellent effort. smiley (I have to wait until I think you are all tucked up in bed on Sunday evening before checking the leader board, because it changes so much throughout the week.)

Things to do

Download the power points below to find out more details for English and maths.

English – We are going to practise different sentence types. Quesitons, exclamations, statements and commands are all different types of sentence.

Reading – Have a look at the VE Day reading comprehension. There are three to choose from: challenge yourself to try number 2 or 3.

Also, please add to the 'Sea Creatures Blog Book Recommendations'. Lauren found a book about dolphins that she has recommended. Maybe you like dolphins and would like to read this book too.

Spelling - every day. This week we are adding suffixes to words ending in 'y'. happy + er = happier. What happeded?

Change the 'y' to 'i' then add the suffix.

Now complete the practice page.

Maths - There are two activity pages to revise simple adding and subtracting within 20 and securing number fact families. On Wednesday we are starting a unit of work on movement and turns called Position, Direction and Movement. You will need to know some key vocabulary so I have included a knowledge organiser for you to refer to on Wednesday's powerpoint.

Remember to log in to Prodigy. I keep logging in to see who is using it. I know some of you have logged in to MyMaths and tried the practice pages - what a good idea! Also, try logging in to TTRS.

PE with Joe Wicks on youtube live 9.00 - 9.30 Ask first. Practise sprinting in your garden. Can you skip? And run at the same time? Set out an obstacle course. Or, try ASM on youtube

History - Our topic is 'Seaside Stories'. The Grace Darling story is the

true story of a brave rescue of nine souls one stormy night. Grace lived in a lighthouse. Imagine that! Would the walls inside be straight or curved? Watch this video about Grace's heroism.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv3eS40j0N0

Draw a picture of Grace and write 3 facts about her and 3 facts about the rescue. Correct sentences please - punctuation and sense.

Science - We are sorting food into groups like dairy and treats. There are pictures to sort and onlyj a few questions to answer. Yum yum.

DT - Have a go at making a Star Wars character? Or cupcakes for VE Day, or bunting for VE Day. Tim Peak is live on youtbe of Monday 4 May at 11.30 am.

IT - ESafety activity 2.

The files list is huge this week, sorry. But, there are lots of fun things to make and of course you don't have to make them all!!!!!

If you would like to make an A4 poster for our NHS that would be lovely. Mrs Jones would like to hang them on the school gates and fences. Are you feeling creative? Weather permitting, there will be a box at the end of the drive, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, for your creations.

Take care,

from Mrs Weatherby
