Activity: Start learning the Japanese characters

• Learn some of the characters from two of the Japanese alphabets, hiragana and katakana.
• Hiragana is the alphabet learnt first.
• Katakana is used for foreign words, such as names of countries.
• Use the alphabet documents below. They show the Japanese character along with the sound that they make.
• You could also use a language-learning website/app, such as Duolingo. These tend to have quite extensive free versions. You will need an email address to register for these.
