Task 1: Relative clauses

This week's writing is going to be about an event in chapter one of the Invention of Hugo Cabret.

Task 2: Read the extract

  • Read the Extract from Chapter One below. You will also be able to pick up a copy of the Invention of Hugo Cabret from school today/
  • Your task is to write your own version of this part of the story but from the perspective of the old man.
  • Read the Thief WAGOLL for an example of what the finished piece of writing should look like.

Task 3: Noun phrases

  • Using the Extract from Chapter One to help you, spend 10 minutes writng a list of noun phrases which you can use in your writing.
  • Click here to access a video by me which explains noun phrases and how to effectively compile a collection of them for use in your writing.

Task 4: Sentence Level Practice

  • Click here for a video by me which talks you through the sentence level activity for this piece of writing.
  • Look through the Sentence Structure - the Thief PDF for some different sentence structures for you to use.
  • You need to write at least five sentences and spend at least 30 minutes writing.
