LO (40 minutes)

Reasoning and problem solving with improper fractions to mixed numbers

Yesterday, we started working on turning improper fractions into mixed numbers.  Today, we are going to reason and problem solve.  If you can't join me on Teams, or if you would like to recap, work through today's maths PowerPoint.  After choose from a *, ** or *** star activity.  Please check your answers and correct any mistakes. If you are feeling confident, have a go at the maths extension. (Answers under the blue boxes.)

English

You can join me on Teams at 10:30 for this session.

Spellings (20 minutes)

Today would have been your spelling test at school.  Could you ask someone at home to test you on your spellings (homophones and near homophones).  Don't forget to remind them to add on our WOTW (below).  I'd love to know how you get on.  Maybe you could tell me your score on Seesaw?

WOTW: necessary, especially, opportunity, sincere

LO

Task 1 (20 minutes)

To use the text to collect information about a character.

**Use the text (chapters 2 and 3) to collect information about Mr Evans, Carrie or Nick. Draw your choosen charcter in the middle of the page (you don't need to spend time on this) and build up a charcter profile around them.  What do they look like?  What is their personality like? What adjectives could you use to describe them?

*Look at the sheet "Mr Evans" to help you build a character profile.  Can you find evidence that his character is like the words provided?

Have a look at the document "Miss Evans" as an example.  Can you see that I have quoted the page number that I found any evidence on?  This is what I would like you to do.

Task 2 (20 minutes)

To use apostrophes for single possession.

Apostrophes can either be used in contracted words to show omitted letters or they can be used to show possession (something that belongs to someone/a thing).  Today, we are going to look at apostrophes for single possession.  Read through the PowerPoint then choose from the *, ** or *** activity provided. Scroll to the bottom for the answers.

PE

For this lesson, choose from one of the activities below:

*Yoga - follow the link to Cosmic yoga:

**Check out the link below relating to dodgeball.  This is the sport that we would be playing at school.  This link shows you a different way of throwing a dodgeball - the side arm technique.  If you have someone at home to practise with, maybe you could try it out.  If you don't have a partner to practise with, could you set up some targets in your garden or a room and try to throw at them? If possible, the ball should be small enough to hold in one hand.

Art

Task 1:

Have a look at the various self-portraits by Frida Kahlo (attached) and consider the following questions:

  1. Do you notice any similarities in her paintings?
  2. What do you notice about the colours of her self-portraits?
  3. How do you think Kahlo was feeling when she painted her self-portraits?  Why?

Task 2

Your second task is to sketch your own self-portrait with pencil. This should include your head down to your shoulders only (like in Kahlo’s pictures).  Sketch your face, hair and clothing.   Remember, the technique of sketching means that we press on lightly with a pencil so that we can rub mistakes out without the pencil leaving ugly marks on the paper. You should use small strokes of your pencil and try to draw from top to bottom as you will have more control.  You might want to practise sketching first.  Try to remember how to draw a realistic face and hair, thinking carefully about the proportions of the face and the thickness of hair.

*You might want to use a mirror or a photo of yourself to really think about the shape and features of your face and hair.  Do not add colour to your sketch today.  We can focus on this next week.  Take your time.  Don’t rush!

***Mrs Bailey's Guided Reading Group!***

Thank you to those children who joined me on Monday. It was great to be able to discuss the picture and answer the questions together as a group.

Your text for this week is an extract from a webpage all about beetles. It can be found in the files section at the bottom of the page.

Please read it through ready for our session next week.

I look forward to seeing you next Monday at 1pm.

Enjoy :)
