EMA (15 minutes)

Please follow the link to My Mini Maths and scroll to Week 30.  (Identifying prime numbers and prime factors.) Click on MON and don't forget to check your answers.

Remember, a prime number is a number that has only two factors - 1 and itself.  If you need to find the prime factor of a number then create a factor tree as shown below.

Maths

You can join me on Teams for this session.  Don't forget, your session may be at a slightly different time today depending on whether you have a session with Mr Reid so keep a look out for your invites.

Mental Maths (20 minutes)

This week, I would like you to focus on your 7x tables.  Can you write them down and think of other number sentences that are related.?

E.g. 9 x 7 = 63;  7 x 9 = 63; 63 ÷ 9 = 7;  63 ÷ 7 = 9; 63 = 7 x 9; 63 = 9 x 7; 7 = 63 ÷ 9

To practise your 7x table, follow the link to Hit the Button.

LO (40 minutes)

Subtract a fraction from a mixed number.

If you were not able to join me for the Teams session, you can click on the video link below or look at the Maths PowerPoint provided.  After, complete the maths activity.  If you're feeling confident with the work and want a challenge, choose from a * (page 1), ** (page 2) or *** (page 3) extension activity.  Don't forget, it's really important to check your answers so you can respond to any that you have have done incorrectly.  Like we would in school, you should then try to fix your answers.

English

You can join me on Teams for this session at 10:30 am.

Spellings (20 minutes)

Our spellings this week are verbs created by converting nouns and adjectives using the suffix -ate.  Please look at the spelling PowerPoint attached. After, complete the spelling activity sheet. Don't forget to spend 5 minutes revising our words of the week, below.

WOTW: thorough, sufficient, signature, equip

Task 1

Identifying mistakes in sentences.  Open up the document English task 1.  Here you will find 10 sentences that all contain mistakes.  The mistakes could contain a punctuation error, a grammar error or the choice of a word doesn't quite fit into the sentence.  Your task is to find the error and think about how it could be resolved.  The answers are on the second page but don't peek until you've had a think first.

Task 2

This week, we are going to be drafting and editing our descriptive narrative - Journey to Druid's Bottom.  Today, we are going to focus on the first part of the story only.  You will need your planning sheets from last week (I have uploaded again for anyone who has misplaced theirs) and the checklist attached.  You task is to write the first paragraph - the children waking up, looking out of their window and seeing snow on the ground and getting dressed ready for their breakfast.  I'd like to see you including the objectives that we focussed on last week for our sentence level work:

  • Sentences beginnng with various openers
  • Dialogue (although not too much)
  • Extended sentences punctuated accurately

Please look at my WAGOLL which highlights where I have added speech.  Look carefully as to how the speech has been organised and punctuated.

Guided Reading

(Please work through this over Monday and Tuesday afternoons.  If we were in school, we would have two sessions, one on each afternoon).

You are going to be focusing in a specific skill today – all of the questions require you to give two examples from the text.

This will require you to skim and scan the text to find the section/extract that the question is referring to then select two relevant examples which support the idea/answer the question.

The text and the questions can be found in the files section.

There are 3 different *’s to choose from. Please choose the one that feels right for you.

The answers are provided for you to check your work when you have finished.

My small group:

Your lives Teams session is at 1pm.

Please make sure you have a pen and paper, as well as the text, ‘Ancient Rome’.

You should have read this ready for the session.

See you soon.

History

Please join me for a live lesson on Teams at 1:45pm.

If you can’t make the lesson then please follow the instructions below.

LO – I can use historical sources to learn more about rationing and its impact on people during and after the war.

Today, we are going to learn about rationing and the impact that it had on people during the war.

During World War 2, all sorts of essentials and non-essential foods were rationed, as well as clothing, furniture, clothing and petrol.

To make the British weak, the Germans tried to cut off supplies of food and other goods. German submarines attacked many of the ships that were bringing food to Britain.

Before the war, Britain imported 55 million tons of food, a month after the war had started this figure had dropped to 12 million.

The Ration Book became the key to survival for nearly every household in Britain. Every member of the public was issued with a ration book.

The government was worried that as food and other items became scarcer, prices would rise and poorer people might not be able to afford things. There was also a danger that some people might hoard items, leaving none for other.

Rationing was introduced to make sure that everyone had a fair share of the items that were hard to get hold of during the war.

Task 1 (25 - 30 minutes):

You are going to read some sources which are extracts from diary entries written during the second world war. These sources provide information about what life was like as a result of rationing.

(There are 3 different sources to choose from. Please choose the * that feels right for you. *** is the most challenging read.)

Please read them carefully and as you are reading, highlight any sentences or words which tell you information about rationing and its impact.

Please then annotate what you have highlighted to explain what you learn.

E.g. If you have highlighted:

During the war, any leftovers from meals were kept for the next day – people kept leftovers to use for future meals.

Fruit was almost non-existent except for apples, which were home grown – people couldn’t get hold of fruit apart from apples because they could be grown at home.

Task 2 (15-20 minutes):

Access the ‘Rationing Challenge Questions’.

Choose a challenge and record your answer. Make sure you explain using information that you have learnt about rationing from the sources.

I would expect you to be able to complete at least 3 challenges in the time.

Please post your work onto Seesaw.
