‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Good morning, Year 5.  Once again, I hope everyone is well and is staying safe.  I wonder if any of your families are planning to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day tomorrow?  I've heard that some people are having BBQ's with their household in their front gardens!  Let's keep our fingers crossed for sunshine!

Maths

Mental maths: Go to Daily Arithmetic for different areas of maths. Aim to work on level 4, 5 and 6 activities. Choose any area of maths that you feel you may need to practise.

LO: To find the area of squares and rectangles

Work through the PowerPoint and then choose either a one, two or three star activity.  If you're feeling confident, have a go at the mastery activity for finding the area.

English

Now, you are ready to have a go at writing your balanced argument entitled "Is sailing around the world a good idea for Michael's family? ".  Have a look at my WAGOLL paying particular attention today to the introductory paragraph.  This introduces the argument and provides the reader with a bit of background information.  It shouldn't be too long and could contain a rhetorical question (a question that doesn't need an answer but gets someone to think).

Design and Technology

Our new DT project is to design, build, launch, load and propel a floating vessel.  The great thing about this project is that it can be done with household items.

The first thing that I would like you to do is have a look at pages 2,3 and 4 of the Log Book.  Ignore that is says to watch the videos.  Your task will be to research the questions on these pages about different types of ship, container ships and cruise ships.
