Maths - 'Building 9 and 10' - Week 1

Today we are ordering numbers 1-10. Before we do that.

Please look at the picture in the files below from a book called 'Anno's Counting Book'. Today we are looking at 9.

Talk about what your child notices. Encourage them to subitise and talk about what they can see without counting if they can. e.g when talking about the horses; "I can see 1 and 3 and 3 and 2 which makes 9". Sorry you will need to rotate the image when you open the pdf, which it should give the option to do.

Building 9 and 10, week 1

After the lesson you are going to order numbers to 10.

There are also some new activities on the additional maths activities page.

CBeebies Presents ...

Join Maddie, Nigel, the Woodland Keepers and Northern Ballet as they present Little Red Riding Hood. You might recognise the set from our song yesterday.

The programme is quite long at 43 minutes. Some children might not be comfortable with the dancers dressed as characters so, here is a behind the scene's taster to gauge your child's interest and if they would be comfortable watching it.

CBeebies presents official preview for Red Riding Hood

If you want to watch it ....when I watched it with my daughter I sat with her and talked about what we could see, partly to keep her interest although the format is very child friendly as the presenters break up the dancing and explain, with the use of children, what is happening. It might be something that you watch at the weekend or come back to at some point later in the day or this week.

Literacy/CLL/CD - Disguising Mr Wolf

  • What are wolves like in stories?

  • Can you think of some words to describe them?

In the stories of 'Red Riding Hood', 'The Three Little Pigs' and 'The Boy who cried Wolf' the wolf might have been more successful if he had a really good disguise.

Can you spot Mr Wolf?

Can you help Mr Wolf by coming up with a really good disguise?

Draw Mr Wolf wearing his new disguise

or

You could pretend to be Mr Wolf and disguise yourself!

Ask your grown-up to take a picture of you wearing your disguise or you could draw yourself in disguise.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

See you later for a bedtime story,

Mrs Rogers
