October 2021 - Viking Monster Guide
Inspired by their learning about Vikings, Year 4 researched some mythical monsters from the Viking period. Then, they created their own monster guides to inform others about the creature.
Firework Makers Daughter - February 2020
At the beginning of the new Spring term, Year 4 began reading our new class text 'The Firework-Maker's Daughter' by Philip Pullman. This inspired us to invent our own fireworks and then to write instructions which include how to make them and how they work. After this, we extended our firework writing by composing poems. We were challenged to include personification, alliteration, similies and onomatopoeia.
Non-Chronological Report - November 2019
Year 4 have been writing non-chronological reports for the monstrous character, Grendel, from Michael Morpurgo's 'Beowulf'. After looking at the features of a non-chronological report, we discussed what Grendel's appearance, habitat and diet could be. This informed our subheadings and finally we wrote our own report all about Grendel.
