Welcome to Sports Week 2019 

Please see below for a brief summary of the exciting opportunities that have taken place during Excalibur Sports Week 2019. Beneath many of the activities, you will see a Club Link section. If you or your child is interested in finding out more about local clubs, please follow the associated link or speak to Mr. Hancock.

 

Excalibur Sports Week 2019 - Day 1:

 

Triton Hockey Club

Chris Calam, Triton Hockey Club coach, visited school today to teach hockey skills to reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 4. During the sessions, the children practised the fundamental skills of the sport before getting into some small-sided games.

Peak Pursuits Climbing Wall

Two climbing instructors from Peak Pursuits brought their mobile climbing wall to give Year 1, 2, 3 and 6 the experience of rock climbing. After a practice go, the children then scaled the wall with increasing skill and confidence, with many of them getting to the very top. Well done to everyone, particularly those who faced their fear of heights during the session.

Alsager Netball Club

Pat Arnott and Emma Skinner visited school from Alsager Netball Club to teach Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 the basics of the sport. During the sessions, they practised skills such as passing and footwork before moving into conditioned games for the children to apply their skills.

Alsager Tennis Club

Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 visited Alsager Lawn Tennis Club. Located just a short walk from school, it was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience the sport using top-class facilities and to receive tuition from a professional coach. At the beginning of the sessions the children developed the hand-to-eye coordination through throwing and catching skills before moving into short rallies. Some of the older year groups then progressed to small sided four v four games.

Ninja Warrior with Sports Coaching North West

Chris Regan from Sports Coaching North West visited Excalibur to run Ninja Warrior challenges with Year 4, 5 and 6. The children were tasked with completing three agility skills in the fastest time possible. Houses were then pitted against each other in a competitive time trial.

Reception practised their circus skills with Mrs. Thompson and they experienced an athletics session lead by our fantastic Year 6 Sports Ambassadors.

 

Excalibur Sports Week 2019 - Day 2:

Cheshire Cricket

Ben Tomlinson, Cheshire Cricket coach, visited the school to run sessions with reception, year 1, year 3, year 4 and year 6. During the activity, the children practised their fundamental skills, including throwing and catching, before getting into games to develop their cricketing ability.

Arrows Archery

Don and Teresa Longhurst from Alsager's Scout and Guide groups visited school to run an introductory soft archery session with reception, year 1 and year 2. The children all had a go at shooting sucker arrows using the correct technique before trying to improve their aim by listening to tips on how to improve.

Club Link: Alsager is home to both Scouts and Guides, providing opportunities for young people from aged 6 upwards to participate in a range of activities, from camping to climbing and other outdoor pursuits.

Alsager Lawn Tennis Club

Phil Ingram visited school this afternoon to run taster sessions with year 1 and year 2. During the sessions, the children practised their forehand strokes in pairs and groups before getting into some conditioned games.

Assault Fun with ASM

Coaches from ASM visited Excalibur to run an exciting assault course activity with Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. Activities included cargo nets, trampettes, weaving cones and others. In addition, the children took part in relay races based on the World's Strongest Man activities, including tire pulls and carrying of medicine balls and weight bags.

Triton Hockey Club

Chris Calam returned for a second day to run hockey sessions with Year 3 and Year 5. As with yesterday, the children quickly progressed to participating in small-sided games, applying their recently-learnt fundamental skills.

Yoga

Mrs. Whittaker ran yoga sessions with reception and Year 3. During the activities, they received a taster session in yoga, involving a variety of movements based on animal themes.

 

Also...

Year 4, 5 & 6 tried their hand at the trim trail, working on achieving the bronze, silver and gold level challenges on the apparatus.

 

Excalibur Sports Week 2019 - Day 3:

Tri Golf

Mr. Johnson visited Excalibur to run tri golf sessions with the whole school. During the sessions, the children learnt the skills of putting and chipping, before trying their hand at hitting targets spread across the field.

Multi-Skills

ASM visited school and ran multi-skills sessions with Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4. The activities included bench ball and dodgeball.

Archery

Don and Teresa from Alsager Scouts and Guides returned to school to run full archery sessions with Year 5 and Year 6. The children were taught the basic techniques of the sport, before trying their hand at aiming for the bullseye.

Also...

Year 6 displayed their superb leadership skills through leading multi-skill activity sessions with Reception and Year 1. The children took part in a range of activities, including tennis skills, penalty shootout, balancing skills, skittles, rounders batting, relay races and others.

 

Year 3 and Year 5 also practised their skills on the circus skills equipment.
