‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Friday 19th June

Hello Year 4!

It is Friday today! I hope you have all had a lovely week. Thank you to everybody who has been responding to tasks on Seesaw. I will be continuing to make phone calls again today and next week to see how you are getting on with your learning and finding out all about the things you have been up to.

Thank you to everybody who has been responding to the Epic! task on Seesaw. I have also set some books on the website, for you all, which relate to our maths topic. I understand that shapes, angles and symmetry can be a tricky topic so these books might be useful for you. Please log into Epic to have a look.

Have a lovely weekend. Stay safe.

Maths

Please start by completing the 'partition a number starter' worksheet. There are only 10 questions and the answers are included too.

Then, please complete the next lesson on Oak National Academy. Today, we are learning all about comparing and classifying quadrilaterals.

English

Please continue the work from yesterday and begin drafting your diary entry. We are imagining we are a Victorian child who is writing all about their day at school. Yesterday, you should have planned your diary entry using the template. Today, please use your plan to begin to draft your writing. Also use the next page in the 'diary writing activity sheet'. Depending on which sheet you have chosen (*, ** or ***) there are some sentence starters to help you.

I have uploaded a 'Rainforest Diary WAGOLL'. This is an extract from a diary written by an explorer in the rainforest. You may want to use some ideas from this to adapt to fit your Victorian diary entry. Again, there is a *, ** and *** WAGOLL. Use the notes you made from the video in THIS LESSON to help you.

History

Please watch this video all about Thomas Bernardo -> https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/true-stories-thomas-barnardo/zky7pg8

He was an important person during the Victorian era and he did a lot of great things! Can you find out what it was that he did?

Have a look at the 'history activity sheets' at the bottom of the page. Can you organise them into groups - Victorian school and modern school? Are there any that go in both? There is a venn diagram at the bottom of the page too. If you would like to, you can use this to sort out where each piece of information will go. There is a side for Victorian schools, a side for modern schools and the section in the middle is for the information that applies to both. You can print this or you can create your own in your book.

DT

You may have already created your fact file about Isambard Kingdom Brunel. If not, you can watch this video to find out why he is famous.

We are going to research bridges around the world, who built them and what they look like. This project will approximately take 2-3 hour sessions where you will first research structures of bridges and then design and create your own! To start you off, I have uploaded a bridges around the world powerpoint. Use this to help inform your research booklet. You do not need to complete all the pages in the booklet. You may want to choose a few of your favourite designs and then research those in your own book.

Think about which features of each bridge you like and how you will design your own bridge.
