Hi everyone.  Again, it was lovely speaking to some of you yesterday to see what you've all been up to.  I miss you all so much so it really is great to hear your voices and have a catch up.  What's also wonderful to hear is how you've all kept up with your school work.  These few weeks have been tough but you've risen to the challenge and stuck at it.  I knew you would xxx

Today at 11am, the Duchess of Cambridge will lead an online assembly on the theme ‘Spread a Little Kindness’.  If you want to watch this, click on the link HERE.  The assembly will stay on the site so you can watch it at any time after 11 am.

Maths

Mental Maths: Follow the link to Hit the Button.  Click on 'Halves' and go to multiples of 10.  Then choose from * up to 100, ** to 250, *** to 500.  Aim to spend around 10 - 15 minutes on this.

LO: To master drawing lines and angles.

Look at slides 12 - 18 on the PowerPoint then complete a one, two or three star activity.  Answers are on the final page.

English

Holiday resorts tend to have a range of accommodation types to suit different budgets.  These could include hotels, apartments, beach huts, cabins, villas etc.  Have a look at the English PowerPoint to look at pictures different types of accommodation.  After, have a look at the file 'English - accommodaton paragraph'  Here you will see an example of a paragraph about accommodation that would fit perfectly in a persuasive leaflet advertising a holiday island.  If you want, you can practise some sentences first (look at English - sentence level work) or you can go straight ahead in drafting and editing this paragraph.

Art

This week in art, we will be practising some skills to enable us to produce a piece of artwork in the style of Hokusai.  If you have paint at home, great.  If not, you could try this with any other media that you have e.g. pencil crayons, chalk, water colours etc.

Open up the document 'Art - Wave'.  You may notice that the picture is really similar to the front cover of Kensuke's Kingdom.

First of all, try to blend colours like the sky in the picture above.  You will see that it subtly changes from red to orange. You could try to add a third colour - yellow - to blend with the orange.  Next, have a look at how the artist has created power in the wave through colour and direction of brush strokes.  Have a go at practising this technique.  You could also practise drawing a wave in Hokusai's style.  Look how he uses little flicks to create the huge splash of water.
