‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Monday 14th December 2020

Good morning Year 5.  I really hope you and your families are all well.  On Friday, I was on a Teams course when Mrs Jones called and said that we wouldn't be in this week.  Obviously, I was really disappointed as I never got say goodbye before Christmas.  However, you are all absolute stars and I know that you'll work just as hard this week as any and then have a fantastic holiday - much deserved!  So, below is our online learning for today.  Please contact me on Seesaw or by using the contact email (contact@excalibur.cheshire.sch.uk) if you need anything.  I will be arranging some Teams meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday where we can have a catch up and I can help with anything so keep a look out for a Teams invite on your calendars xxx

EMA - Follow the link to My Mini Maths.

https://myminimaths.co.uk/year-5-mini-maths/

Scroll to Week 1 (Adding using formal methods) and click on Friday.  If you want, you can watch the You Tube video which will go through how to do addition.  If you would like a challenge, choose any of the iQ questions.

Mental Maths - This week, i would like you to focus on your 8x tables.  Can you wite them down and think of other number sentences that are related.

E.g. 8 x 7 = 56 so 7 x 8 = 56; 56 ÷ 8 = 7;  56 ÷ 7 = 8; 56 = 7 x 8; 56 = 8 x 7; 7 = 56 ÷ 8

To practise, follow the link to Hit the Button.

LO: Multiplying by 10

Watch the video link below or work through the attached Maths PowerPoint.  After, complete the maths worksheet.  Don't forget to check your answers.  If you're up for a challenge, try the reasoning and problem solving questions.

Spellings: This week, we are looking at words ending in the suffix - ness.  Read through the PowerPoint and complete the activities. Note down any helpful ways to remember the words as we would discuss in class.

English:

Throughout this week, you will be writing a descriptive piece based on ‘The Snowman’. Don’t worry if you haven’t seen it before! I have added the link for you to watch. It’s lovely!

The Snowman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXEoqb0_mrg

Today, take some time to watch ‘The Snowman’. After watching the story, read through the four scenes I have chosen and decide which one you would like to do your writing on. Once you have chosen your scene, try and create a word bank as we would usually do in class to support your writing. This word bank can include adjectives, verbs, nouns, adverbs. If you would like to, use a dictionary and thesaurus to help you.

Guided Reading (Mrs Harris)

Please read through the text and answer the questions provided.

PE (Mrs Harris)

The plan was to have a mini basketball tournament. Unfortunately, with you all at home, this isn’t going to be possible. If you have the equipment and can practise your basketball skills please practise your dribbling and chest and bounce passes.
I appreciate this won’t be possible for most of you, so alternatively you can choose one of the following options:
Cardio exercise: Kids Daily Exercise - Day 1 - YouTube
Or
Christmas Yoga: Christmas Special | A Cosmic Kids Yoga Adventure! - YouTube
Or both cardio and yoga!
