Task 1: Practising past tense - perfect, simple and progressive

  • Click here to watch a video of me recapping the following:
    • Simple past
    • Past progressive
    • Past perfect
  • Throughout the video, I set you a series of challenges, so you will need to watch the video, pause when asked to do so and complete the tasks.
  • The tasks can also be found on the Past Tense Task Document.

Task 2: Compiling feelings and idea to use in your diary entry

  • You are writing your diary entry from Hugo's perspective on his return from the old man's apartment and the conversation with the girl.
  • You need to use chapter 4 and chapter 5 to help you with the content.
  • Take a look at the Diary Entry WAGOLL to understand what the finished product should look like. We will be working on this both this week and next.
  • Look at the Feelings and Ideas Template and spend 15 minutes compiling a list of words and phrases which you could use in your diary entry. You do not need to print the sheet - you can compile your ideas in an exercise book. Think about the following:
    • How does Hugo feel? About the old man? About the girl? About the notebook? About his father? About the mechanical man?
    • What events might he retell to his diary? The stealing of the blue mouse? The journey across Paris? The conversation with the girl? The memories about his father?
