Maths - 'Growing 6, 7, 8!' - measuring height

Lets warm up with Jack Hartman and our song of the week.

Counting On by 1's I Can Count From Any Number

Today we will be measuring sunflowers ... as it would take a long time to grow some we have a PowerPoint to help us. You will find it in the files section below. Talk through it together.

There is a measuring sunflowers sheet you could do afterwards. if you don't have a printer you could just draw some flowers on paper and measure those or you could find some things around your home to measure the height of.

Although it says measure in cubes you can use bricks or blocks instead.

Remember whatever you use to measure with must be the same size so you need to use the same size bricks or blocks.

There are also some measuring height activities on the additional maths activities page.

See you later for a bedtime story

Mrs Bailey

Good afternoon Reception!

I can’t believe that it is Thursday already!

Please join me for a live Teams meeting at 12:45pm.

Music

Enjoy listening and joining in with Andy’s Polar rap:

Andy's polar rap

Questions to think about afterwards:

  • What animals did Andy see in the Arctic?
  • Why do some of the animals turn white?
  • Why are the plants in the Arctic useful?
  • Which is colder – the North or the South pole?
  • It is so cold in the Antarctic that …. what happens?

KUW – Life Cycle of a penguin writing

This week, you are going to have a go at adding some writing to the penguin life cycle that you created.

Rabbits and Owls:

Can you have a go at writing the full word to label your life cycle?

Don’t forget to use your Fred fingers to help you.

  1. egg
  2. chick
  3. moult
  4. adult

Please click here for a video of me teaching how to do this.

Foxes and Hedgehogs:

Can you have a go at these ‘hold a sentences’?

Write them under/next to the correct picture on your life cycle.

  1. It lays an egg.
  2. The egg hatches. It is a chick.
  3. Its feathers come off.
  4. It is an adult.

Try your best and remember your full stop at the end of the sentence.

Please click here for a video of me teaching how to do this.

I can’t wait to see your fantastic writing on Seesaw 😊

Have a lovely afternoon!
