‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

World War 1 Centenary Art Project

Lesson: Art and design

2014 marked 100 years since the start of World War 1. In commemoration of this significant milestone in world history, we have woven a series of age appropriate and relevant events into school life this year, for example the Christmas truce as part of the junior’s carol service and rationing in the harvest celebration. Our next piece of work is via an art project. Local artist Sue Smart will be spending time with every class over this term to produce some pieces of art which will be displayed in school as part of the commemoration. Thanks to Friends of Excalibur who have part funded this project.

Reception and Key Stage 1 Art Day 16th January 2015

What a fantastic day! Mrs Smart explained the activities that each class did in an artistically skilled way. She gave us clear instructions about how to improve our various techniques and how to be the most successful artists that we could be. The pieces of work that we created were inspired by the work of other artists but the process that we experienced and the work we produced was unique and incredibly enjoyable.

“I learned that my art was getting better and better and better!” Euan

“I thought it was fun. I thought my picture was good!” Millie

“I think it was great! I loved it!” Samuel

“It was great! I enjoyed cutting out the shapes!” Eloise
