‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Friday 22nd January

Good morning everyone

It's Friday!

Join Mrs Bailey live at 9.15 am on Teams. It will be lovely to see you there :)

Today we are doing ...

Phonics - Trash or Treasure Game

Today we have a phonics game to play called 'trash or treasure'.

Watch my video below to see how to play the game. The words for your games can be found on Seesaw in the activities section.

Maths - 'Alive-in-5!' Week 3, lesson 5

Counting songs - up to 20 and down from 20

Our last day with these songs, you are getting really good.

Count up to 20

and counting backwards ...

Count down from 20

Continuing our lessons about capacity and measuring. If you want to do more around capacity visit the new page for additional maths activities. The activities are for those children who want a little bit more because they weren't sure about something, they can be challenged a little more or because they just want to do more.

Lesson 5 - Measuring Ingredients

Today you are going to be ... measuring ingredients to make play dough

'Alive-in-5!' Week 3

We realise you may not have the ingredients for the play dough, you could wait until you do or you could try the  'pizza in a mug' or 'bread in a mug' activity if you haven't already done so. The recipes are on the additional activities page. (Link to the page is above.)

Also, I have posted an alternative playdough recipe which has ingredients that are more likely to be in your kitchen, just in case you don't have any cream of tartar.

Enjoy following the recipes.

Make sure you follow the recipe and measure carefully. ðŸ˜Š

Subitising

Linking to the activity at the beginning of the White Rose lesson, I have a game for you to play to practise your subitising.

Click on the link:

Subitising game

Choose matching.

Choose 1 to 5.

Try subitising rather than counting how many dots there are.

If you would like a challenge then you could always choose 6 to 10 or even 1 to 10!

Dough Disco

I bet your funky fingers are feeling tired from all of the dough discoing this week!

Why not give this dough disco video a try? It helps you practise your days of the week too!

Days of the week dough disco!

You could also give this video a go! It is a guided dough disco video to 'Uptown Funk'!

KUW - Experiments with snow!

Seen as we have had more snow, I thought it would be good to make the most of it and have a go at some experiments.

The experiments don’t require a lot of snow so hopefully there will be some left for you to use!

There 4 experiments to choose from. You can do as many as you like!

The experiments are available to download in a word document in the files section.

For 3 of the experiments, I have recorded a video to explain what to do. These can be found below:

Does snow float or sink?

How much water is in snow?

Mixing things with snow

Make sure you make a prediction before you start!

What do you think will happen and why?

While you are observing, think carefully about what you can see.

What is happening to the snow/ice? Why might that be?

Afterwards, think back to your prediction. Was it right? Was it wrong? Why?

Happy experimenting!

Emperor’s Egg -Story

Enjoy listening to our story again:

Emperor's Egg

Questions to think about:

  • What is the penguin’s very important job?
  • Where is the female (mummy) penguin?
  • How does the male (daddy) penguin keep the egg warm?
  • Would you like to look after the egg for 2 whole months?
  • Why do the penguins have to be careful when they slide on their tummies?
  • What jobs does the male (daddy) penguin have to do when the chick has hatched?

Physical development - Move like a penguin!

Task:

Can you move like a penguin?

Watch the video which is in the files section and try and copy the penguin’s movements.

Fancy a challenge?

Can you carry an ‘egg’ (you could use a ball or a cuddly toy!) like the male penguin?

Try balancing the ‘egg’ on your feet.

Can you move without dropping it?

Can you pass it across to somebody else without it touching ‘the ice’?

I look forward to seeing how you get on.

Have a lovely day!
