Hi everyone. Welcome back to another week of online learning. I hope you have all had a lovely weekend.  I believe it's going to be another rainy week but I'm sure the sun will be back soon! (Fingers crossed!)

So, I received an email on Friday to say that we have earnt another badge from Epic!

Well done to all who have been reading on Epic.

LO: To identify, describe and classify shapes based on properties

Firstly, look at the PowerPoint to recap on naming 2D shapes.

Then, follow the link to Oak Academy Y5 maths. Scroll to 2D and 3D shapes and choose lesson 1.  Complete the quiz then watch the teaching video.  Complete the online activities (worksheets can be found if you click "Next" after the video). After, have a go at the post-lesson quiz.

Click on the attached maths activities if you would like additional work in this area.

English

Spellings: This week we are going to focus on words with the suffix sion.  Look at the PowerPoint which will help you to remember when to use this ending.  I've attached a few activities that you can complete throughout the week, plus, a spelling list for words to learn.

Today's comprehension is based upon a newspaper article about a demonstration concerned with the closure of a swimming pool. Check your answers once you have completed this.

Humanities

LO: To learn about lines of latitude and longitude

Invisible lines of latitude and longitude form a grid over the Earth.  These lines help to create a co-ordinate to locate a place accurately.  Read through the PowerPoint (slides 1 - 13).  After, complete the activity sheet (page 1). You may find an atlas (either online or as hard copy) useful for this activity).

Extension: Find out what you can about countries which are close to the equator, near the tropics, near to the poles.

What is the Prime Meridian? Greenwich Mean Time?
