‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Thursday 4th March

It's Thursday!

Good morning everyone,

I will see your child with their favourite story and toy for a special World Book Day meeting in their usual RWI slot.

My good morning message can be found at the bottom of this page. It's the bottom video.

Today we are thinking about books and stories. To get you started there is a video of some of the staff who work at our school talking about their favourite books and a 'Masked Reader' challenge which can be found on the 'World Book Day' section of website. The masked reader might be a bit tricky if you are new to our school as you don't know all the grown-ups that work here yet but if you have any older brothers or sisters they might be able to help you.

Reading Den

Can you make a den or reading nook to snuggle into with your favourite book and toy to cuddle?

Zaha Hadid

Our school theme for today is insirational people. I would like to share with you the story of  Zaha Hadid. Zaha was an architect who was famous for designing buildings without squares and rectangles, instead she used curved shapes in her designs.

This week you have been building towers with different shapes so you know how tricky it is to build using curved shapes. I have two stories about Zaha to share with you below. Choose the one of me holding a globe first (middle video) followed by the "The World is Not a Rectangle" (top video).

Challenge

Have a go at building using shapes with curved sides. How did you get on? Is it easy or tricky? Can you make a tower or a bridge like Zaha?

Maths - 'Building 9 and 10' - Week 3, lesson 4

Today we look at repeating patterns

Building 9 and 10 week 3

After the lesson there is a repeating pattern activity you can do.

See you later for a bedtime story as we continue our adventures with Fast Fox, Slow Dog, Mother Hen and her chicks.

Mrs Rogers

Mrs Bailey

Good afternoon everybody! Please join me at 12:45pm for a live Teams meeting. We are going to have a go at a quiz called, 'Name that Story!'. Also, I would like to share one of my favourite stories with you. I look forward to seeing you :)

As you know, today is World Book Day! This afternoon, all of the activities are designed to help you celebrate this special and important day.

Make your own bookmark

I would like you to design your own bookmark for you to use while reading your favourite books :)

There is a template for you to use in the files section if you would like to.

It might be nice if you included pictures of your favourite book characters on your bookmark.

Or maybe a picture of your favourite book?

I can't wait to see your designs on Seesaw :)

Character detectives

You are going to be character detectives today! :)

Below are some descriptions of book characters.

I would like you to listen to share the description with your grown up and try and draw the character that is being described.

Once you have drawn it, can you solve the puzzle and guess who the character is?

Character 1

"Elephants like this, that and the other. All different but all happy and all the same colour. All that is except (?). (?) was different. (?) was patchwork. (?) was yellow and orange and red and pink and purple and blue and green and black and white. (?) was not elephant colour.

Who is it?

Character 2

"He was almost twice as tall as a normal man and at least five times as wide. He looked simply too big to be allowed, and so wild - long tangles of bushy black hair and beard hid most of his face, he had hands the size of dustbin lids and his feet in their leather boots were like baby dolphins."

Who is it?

Character 3

" A (?). Why didn't you know? He has terrible teeth and terrible claws. And terrible teeth in his terrible jaw. He has nobbly knees and turned out toes. And a poisonous wart on the end of his nose. His eyes are orange and his tongue is black and he has purple spikes all over his back."

Who is it?

I look forward to seeing your pictures on Seesaw.

I will post the answers onto Seesaw later on today.

Optional activities

If you are enjoying the World Book Day activities and want to do more, I have put a few more activity ideas below for to enjoy if you want to:

  • Design your own book cover (Template in the files section)
