‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Week Beginning 04 May 2020

It's May! A new month! Take a moment to have a think about what you would like to do this month. Are you going to continue a hobby which you have already started? Are you going to try something new?

Well done to everybody who has been logging on to Prodigy. The Prodigy leader board for last week April 27 - May 01 is:

Gold: Jessica A                Silver: Isaac               Bronze: Aden

Well done to our leaderboard winners this week!

There is a free book called 'The Book of Hopes' which is dedicated to everyone currently working in hospitals. It is full of stories, poems and lots more.   https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/9-12/book-hopes/

If you like reading, you might also want to try a free book called 'How to NOT go to school'. The story is all about Parsley and learning from home!  Click on the book to read.

Remember to ask an adult before you click on any links!

Keep safe.

Spellings

This week we are looking at adding the prefix auto-. I have uploaded a wordsearch for you to have a go at. If you are unsure of a word, ask an adult to help you find the definition.

I would also like you to choose a few tricky words from the Year 3/4 spelling list (uploaded at the bottom of this page). You don't need to learn them all at once. Start with a few at a time and practise those. This week, I suggest you choose between 5 and 10 words to practise.

Science

As we are looking at circuits this term as part of our electricity topic, I thought you might like to have a go at building a circuit. I have uploaded some circuit cards. Try and build a few of them on the online simulator and complete the table. First, predict if you think the bulb will light, test using the simulator then write the result. Click on the circuit to get started!

Computing

Try some of the resources available on the Barefoot website (HERE). You can choose which activity you would like to complete but I really enjoyed the code cracking game. Click on the picture below to have a go yourself!

E-safety

Last week we looked again at the Think U Know video about Alfie and his band. This week please watch 'Film 2: Who's Magnus?' https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/8_10/watch/

1.  What did you think? What did you like about this episode?

2. What does Sam do with Megan's baby photo?

3. How does Megan feel and what does she do in response?

4. What upsets Ellie and who does she turn to?

5. Is Magnus the best person to support Ellie?

Art

Have a go at creating your own Victorian silhouette portrait. I have uploaded a set of instructions which you may wish to follow. Don't worry if you do not have all the things I used. You can get creative and use other materials to make your silhouette. Make sure to ask an adult before you start as you need an extra pair of hands! Alternatively, you may wish to sketch your own portrait instead.  Have fun!

P4C / PSHE

We have completed some Philosophy for Children (P4C) activities in class. Why not try some at home? Click HERE to watch a video about freedom. Spend some time afterwards thinking if you agree with Spot or Stripe. Why do you agree/disagree? Do you have your own thoughts?

Have you been keeping up with Harold's Daily Diary. Click on Harold to see all the things he has been up to recently.

History Project

This week we are looking at The British Empire. Click on the map of The British Empire to show more informatio. Use this website to research and create an information page to show all the things you have found out. You could choose to create a poster, a booklet, a PowerPoint presentation or something else.

Be informative but most of all be creative!

Have you asked to try Joe Wicks? Click HERE to have a go live at 9am or to try some of his other workouts.

Cosmic Yoga is a great way to stretch your muscles. Have a go HERE. If you like to dance and want to try the Disco Yoga click HERE. I think it's great fun!
