English

Our theme for World Book Day this year is Inspirational People.  I have been inspired by many people and read books about people who have been an inspiration - too many to share.  However, there is one book that really stands out for me.  It's called Little Leaders - Bold Women in Black History.

This book was bought for my daughter for her birthday with a message inside saying "Dream Big".  It contains 80 biographies of black woman who I had mostly never heard of but after reading about, know that I should have. I'm going to share the story of one of these women with you. Her name is Ruby Bridges and her story started when she was just 6 years old...

Task 1

Click on the PowerPoint to find out about Ruby's life and why she is such an inspiration to all.  At the end of the presentation, you will find several activities.  You can choose to complete as many or as few as you want.  Please do send any completed activities on to Seesaw.  It really would be great to see.

Extra World Book Day Tasks

  • Words Out of Words - Look through the PowerPoint.  Can you see how many words have been made out of the letters from World Book Day?  Choose one of the author's names and see how many words you can come up with in 15 minutes.
  • Ruby Bridges - Strong and Courageous Quiz cards
  • Ruby Bridges - Colour and Respond Sheets

Spellings (20 minutes)

Please find attached a handwriting sheet to practise your handwriting and words for this week.

Don't forget to spend time revising our words of the week, below.

WOTW: thorough, sufficient, signature, equip

Science

This week we are talking about Metamorphosis - this is a series of physical changes that some animals go through to become adults.

Please watch the powerpoint 'Metamorphosis'.  Then use what you have learnt from that, and the information on the Metamorphosis Clue cards, to complete the Amphibian and Insects worksheet.

French

As part of World Book Day I would like you to watch a clip of a well-known story translated into French.

La Chenille Qui Fait Des Trous (de Eric Carle) - YouTube

Then you have a sheet to complete. Cut out the days, numbers and fruits to complete the table.

There is also a French Book Quiz, Match the English story titles to the French translations - how many can you do? Let me know on Seesaw
