Mrs Jo Bain - New Governor - March 2019
Date: 12th Nov 2019 @ 4:48pm
I have spent over 17 years working at Excalibur as a Teacher and Teaching Assistant, so I was very pleased to be asked to become a member of the Local Governing Body (LGB) at Excalibur when I retired. Of course, those of you who know me, know that I love this school; the children, staff, parents and community which we serve… as well as being within a wonderful town like Alsager.
So, why did I become a Governor you may ask? Well, that’s easy to answer… for the children of course. I believe very strongly that children have one childhood, one education and one chance to develop as young people and the adults they will become. We want all of our young people to achieve and be as happy as they can be in life; to provide them with opportunities to develop resilience, reasoning, responsibility, resourcefulness, reflectiveness and the ability to respect all others. Having a high quality education in a caring and supportive environment is very important both for children and adults within our school to learn and feel valued.
Education is an ever evolving environment and even though I have been in teaching for over 35 years, there has never been a point in time where something hasn’t been changing… and to me, that is what is so exciting. We keep to the things we know work and we introduce new ideas as they come along too. A mix of old and new, tried and tested along with innovation and taking risks is a good combination which empowers everyone within our school community and education in general.
As a Teacher at Excalibur, I have seen many changes over the years, the curriculum, the children, the families we have worked with, the staff and way we work together… and a lot more that I’ve not got space to write her. But throughout, the most important thing this school has done and we as a staff have believed in, is that the children and their development, both educationally and holistically in their social, emotional, mental and physical needs… these come first.
Our staff however, has always been our main strength, with many very talented and dedicated people who have made Excalibur the school that it is. I also feel very grateful that as a teacher, our parents and carers have been supportive and understanding of what we are trying to do for their children. Without this, our school would not be the wonderful school it is today.
Now, as a Governor, my role has changed. My role is to work with the Chancery Multi Academy Trust Directors , the Excalibur Local Governing Body (LGB), the head teacher, staff and other members of our Excalibur Local Governing Body, to ensure that we work together to provide high quality and effective education for all.
Above all, I’m looking forward to seeing the children in their learning environment and to talk to them about their learning and make sure that the exemplary work we have always done at this school continues for many years to come.
