Computing at Excalibur
'I liked it when we got to use the iPads to draw! We learnt how to make straight lines and paint a picture.' Year 1
'We have been taking photos and learning if they are landscape or portrait!' Year 2
'I have really enjoyed learning how to use Scratch! We have used ScratchJr before but I love Scratch more!' Year 3
'We got to film our own podcasts! I really enjoyed writing a script and making it on something that I enjoy' Year 4
'I really enjoyed it when Raj came in and used the Micro:bits with us! I thought they were so cool! We learnt how to make a rock scissors game on them!' Year 5
'I really enjoyed making a website and learning how to hyperlink to other pages! It was really fun!' Year 6
Year 1
In Year 1, we have been exploring coding through Scratch Jr, learning how to create simple animations and interactive stories by programming characters to move, talk, and respond to events. It’s been a great way to build a strong foundation in computational thinking.
Year 2
Year 2 have enjoyed the Digital Music topic, using digital tools to compose their own music and experiment with different sounds and rhythms. This has helped them see how technology can be used in creative ways to make music.
Year 3
In Year 3, we have been developing our programming skills with Scratch, creating interactive stories, games, and animations by sequencing code, using loops, and adding events. It’s been exciting to bring our ideas to life while learning logical thinking.
Year 4
Year 4 have been developing their understanding of how digital images can be changed and edited, and how they can then be resaved and reused. We have also considered the impact that editing images can have, and evaluate the effectiveness of their choices.
Year 5
Year 5 have been working with spreadsheets, learning how to organise, calculate, and present data effectively. They have used formulas, created graphs, and analysed information to develop important data-handling skills.
Year 6
In Year 6, we have been exploring 3D design using Tinkercad. Children have been designing, modelling, and refining their own digital objects, learning about spatial awareness, precision, and the creative possibilities of digital design.
