‘Nurturing Individual Excellence’

Geography

At Excalibur Primary School, our geography curriculum aims to inspire a thirst for cultural knowledge and curiosity about our country and our world, as well as promoting an understanding of their locality through opportunities for fieldwork. Our children will develop a broad locational knowledge, helping them to build their own sense of identity and place and orient themselves within our world. With an appreciation of distance and scale. This will include the location and characteristics of a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features.  As children develop their place and locational knowledge, they will be able to make meaningful comparisons.

Our curriculum aims to allow our children to constantly build upon their previous learning, acquiring more complex geographical knowledge as they progress. They will be able to apply this to asking geographical questions and they will understand and acquire subject-specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography. Our curriculum promotes an understanding of geographical processes which become more complex.

Our curriculum encourages children to consider how they can make a positive contribution to the world in which they live. They will develop sympathetic and enquiring minds by looking at the impact economic growth and human activity is having on the planet. Our children will be encouraged to question human behaviour in order to sustain and improve the environment. They will recognise their responsibilities within the global community.
