Pre-School

Pre-school have been busy practicing their D&T skills with a range of Autumn activities.  During our Nursery Rhyme theme, the children threaded pipe cleaner legs for Incy Wincy, cut and assembled Humpty Dumpty jigsaws, rolled and created telescopes to view Twinkle Twinkle.  After reading ‘Each, Peach, Pear, Plum’, we celebrated the end of our theme by making and enjoying a layered plum pudding.

Year 1

We have been cutting and juicing fruits and vegetables to create a smoothie that meets a design brief. The children have had opportunities to develop food preparation skills with an increased focus on taste testing and ingredient choices.

Year 2

Year 2 have been exploring levers, linkages and pivots through existing products and experimentation, then they have used this research to construct and assemble a moving monster. Year 2 have also learnt about the importance of a balanced diet to create a tasty wrap.

Year 3

Year 3 have been exploring pneumatic systems and applied this understanding to design and make a pneumatic toy including thumbnail sketches and exploded diagrams.

Year 4

Year 4 have making and designing mechanical cars that use a slingshot as a method of movement. They have had to choose and use appropriate tools to create their mechanism and then problem solve to make their car even better.

Year 5

Year 5 have designed and created their own pop up book based on a nursery rhyme. The children had to use layers and spacers to cover their working mechanisms to create a high quality product.

Year 6

Year 6 have developed a functional automata window display, the children have had opportunities to interpret exploded diagrams and additional time to explore different cam shapes and make design choices that impact the final product.
